I have a restricted account set up for my 5-year old son. I have movies set to G and PG and TV set to similar age restrictions. When I signed into his account, I was surprised to see the Podcasts and Recommended Web Shows Beta were added to his home screen, with suggestions that I do not think were in line with the age restrictions I set up (specifically the web shows–see the screenshot below).
I understand that you want to introduce new features and put them in front of people, but it seems completely tone deaf to roll out algorithm-curated content to users with age-restricted accounts.
Restrictions are applied per shared library – not on a per-account level.
That being said… you can disable online media sources for home users: https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/online-media-sources
(select the source, click Edit and select Disabled for Managed Users).
There’s no particular restriction you can apply on a per-managed-user level.
PS: noticed too late that blim5001 already provided pretty much the same answer
I do see that even if I reset his home screen to default now, I don’t see the Web Shows or Podcasts, nor the ability to add them. Maybe this was just a bug in the way it was rolled out.
I realise Plex is keen to promote their new value-add services, but in the case of managed users I think it would be prudent to disable new services by default and notify the managing user that these are available and give them the option.
