New files not showing in Plex 'Something went wrong'

Hi all.

Today, an issue has arisen which has me stumped. I have an external HDD attached to my Nvidia Shield Pro which I have made into a NAS drive. I transfer my media to it from my laptop, wirelessly. I have the usual issue of the Windows bug causing me to lose connection to the NAS drive but that is a separate issue.

The issue I am looking for support with now is that new media I add to the drive is not showing up in Plex. I had 2 episodes of a show on there and watched them with no issue a few days ago. I have now added another 2 episodes and now when I select that show on Plex, none of the episodes show up and it says ‘Something went wrong’.

I know the episodes are on there because I can open them on my laptop via the NAS drive and I can also view them on VLC player on the Shield so it seems to be some Plex issue. Any ideas as to why this might be happening and how I can resolve it?

When my plex server was on my desktop pc, I could update the server when there were plex updates but I cannot see a way of doing that now my Plex server is on my Shield. Not sure if this would help but I know that when I had issues in the past when I used the desktop as the plex server, doing an update would usually fix it.

Thank you

Anybody? I would’ve thought this would be quite a common problem as I have seen lots of posts similar but not similar enough to help me work it out.

Do Plex employees not help on these forums?

Can you post your server logs?

I tried but it is ALOT of data and it timed out on here

Here’s part of it. It’s the start up to a few from yesterday which is then about a thousand lines as I was trying many things yesterday to sort it I assume.

You have a corrupt database

Thanks but my media server is hosted on my Nvidia Shield Pro so I cannot see how I can do any of this.

Actually I think I have worked it out. It’s rebuilding now I think so I will report back later

I don’t know what stage you’re at but if you get stuck on anything these links might help

https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/s5ozy1/fixing_nvidia_shield_plex_issue_plex_media_server/

Thank you, you have been a real help. I wonder if the fact I turn the shield off at the wall socket when not in use is causing an issue. With the cost of energy at the moment, I am turning everything off at the socket to stop unnecessary power drain.

I noticed the IP address for the NAS HDD attached to the Shield, changed yesterday but then changed back to what it was previously. I need to see if there is any setting to keep the same IP address. If that is what caused it.

Thanks again.

Having a different ip address won’t cause any problems with your database

Most people want a static ip for their server so they can configure remote access. If that’s not a concern for you and you’re not having other connection related issues, I wouldn’t worry about that

On the other issue, YES… power loss to your device during something like an update or scheduled tasks is a database killer

You might want to consider finding a separate plug for the Shield from the other devices you want to turn off

you can shut down PMS but you should make sure no maintenance is occurring when you do that. so set those times for times when you know you won’t be shutting it down. I’d also put the shield to sleep before you do that. My shield never liked power outages and it corrupted the database frequently. Not sure how much power it is pulling leaving it on though.
