New film missing from recently added due to match issue

Server Version#: 1.25.9.5721-96558f64
Player Version#: Web Version 4.78.4

I added a new film which was incorrectly matched into an existing film. I used the split apart functionality and then re-matched the items to the correct films, however the new film is still not showing on recently added. It’s as though all the split items inherited the added / creation date from the original film instead of being reset when it was matched against a film which was not previously in our library.

I’ve searched through all the options and there doesn’t see to be any option to reset the creation date.

  1. rename the movie file, so a mismatch is not possible Naming and organizing your Movie files | Plex Support
  2. remove it from the library, “Scan Library Files”, empty library trash, then re-add it

Thanks for the tip, almost worked but also had create a .plexignore so it didnt pick up files in the bin.

Full steps

  1. Create .plexignore with the content *RECYCLE.BIN/* in the root of each drive.
  2. Restart plex server to pickup the ignore, didn’t seem to work without this.
  3. Rename the files to include the year as detailed in Naming and organizing.
  4. Delete the files, which placed them in the bin.
  5. Scan Library Files which removes the old version just from display.
  6. Manage Library -> Empty Trash which really removes the old version.
  7. Restore the files from the trash.
  8. Scan Library Files.

Plex really should prefer an exact name match instead of a partial, in my case a The Suicide Squad was detected as Suicide Squad which is a different film.

  1. is not necessary if you stick to the recommendation to always use subfolders. Doing so has also other benefits.

That’s what it does. The more exact your file name is, the better.
Articles (the, a) are a special case, as they usually get automatically removed when searching for matches.

Accuracy of detection can be improved, by adding the release year if there are several movies by that title. I recommend to always include the year.

If there are several movies by the same title within the same year, you can use the ID number of TheMovieDB.org or IMDb.com as a last resort.

Long time plex user and setup before that recommended was made. I have also mounted disks to increase storage over the years.

I understand why the and a would be a special case but if it was done as a fall back and not the default it would avoid this type of issue.

Year is definitely useful and did fix but it requires manual editing when processing new disks so something I only do if needed, as the names were different I didn’t expect to have to do in this case.

Thanks for all the info and quick response, hope the feedback will help you improve Plex
