New firestick 4K max gen 2 dts no audio

So everything works great with the new firestick but it doesn’t pass through dts and dts hdMA. That is fine i don’t mind the video direct playing and the audio transcoding but whats happening is the file is being direct played by my server but im not getting no audio. This problem is only with the new firestick. Ive plugged a firestick 4k max gen 1 and a firestick 4k up and both of those device say direct play on the video and audio and both produce sound. Only way i can get audio from dts content on the new 2023 firestick 4k max is if i disable hdmi passthrough. The problem with that is then i wont be able to direct play truehd. So it’s a lose lose situation. Ive tried every combination of settings to fix this issue. Ive tried firestick plugged directly into earc on tv and ive tried firestick plugged directly to my receiver. Have anyone else ran into the problem?

You’ve described normal behavior. As you already know, it doesn’t support DTS. Plex doesn’t know that, so if you tell it to passthrough that’s exactly what it’ll do. Get a 2019 Shield Pro for full support.

I have every streaming device already. I have a shield. Just bought the firestick to test it out. That still doesn’t rule out why this issue isn’t reproduced on other Amazon devices. It is only the new firestick that this is happening on.

The other amazon devices can’t handle either DTS nor TrueHD, so it’s going to transcode every uncompressed source you throw at them. Again, normal. What you want, doesn’t exist. If you want to use passthrough with the new devices, you’ll never get DTS. That’s it.

Why can’t the audio transcode and do a direct stream then? Instead the server is direct playing the file.

DTS or DTSHD is not transcoded on any of my Fire TV hardware. Its direct played and the Stick transcodes it to EAC3.

I said uncompressed. Both of those are lossy.

You said its expected to get silence when Plex tries to passthrough DTS and thats bullshit.

And yet, here we are  Use your shield. Be happy

There’s something definitely wrong with the new stick and the way it handles dts. Older sticks dts plays sound with exact same settings. Only this model it doesn’t

Do you have the new firestick 4K max gen 2?

No it’s not available over here yet.

But it’s clearly not expected that it silences DTS, so IDK what he’s talking about.

Yes same thing I was thinking. I literally plugged every other Amazon fire device up the exact same way and they all played sound besides the new 4K max gen 2. It’s direct playing the file but no sound. Last gen model direct plays the file and produces sound.

Hmm that is unexpected, we were told by Amazon the newest 4K Max would support DTS passthrough and was told to allow support.

Here’s a build which disables DTS passthrough, it should still direct play using our DTS software decoder:

Armv7 for FireTV: https://artifacts.plex.tv/android-experimental/10.2.0.4260-d75940f/PlexForAndroid-10.2.0.4260-d75940f-armeabi-v7aAmazonRelease.apk

At least DTS is not listed in the developer specs.

We’ve noticed that and have reached out to Amazon.

If someone can verify the build above solves the problem, we can roll it into the beta for the next release - we currently don’t have access to the new device to confirm the behaviour.

This file is 404ing, if you can fix the link I’ll test it

It should be part of the latest public release - https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-for-android/29115/484:

  • Player: ensure DTS support is correctly detected on new FireTV 4K Max 2nd Gen.

It’s now in the release as @DTR mentioned (thanks!), if you don’t have it already you can sideload this build;

Armv7 for FireTV’s: https://downloads.plex.tv/Kepler/kepler-armeabi-v7a-amazon-10.1.0.4284-8a35510.apk

It should be fully rolled out by next week.

If you guys don’t mind my Question, does this mean, that the 2nd gen Firetv stck 4k max does not support DTS passthrough?
