Hi, got a new “Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max” and tried the 10.5.xxx version and the latest beta:
Plex for Android 10.6.0.5127-beta
FireTV is set to “Dolby Digital” and Plex is set to HDMI. DTS and AC3 is playing fine but all of my OPUS files are only 2 channel and very quiet. Same Settings on my older Fire TV 4K is working fine.
Am I doing something wrong?
thx
The beta release is broken for the firestick and cube do not work. You need to use the stable release.
kepler-armeabi-v7a-amazon-10.6.0.5141-3aa3109.apk, latest stable I found, and same issue.
OPUS files play better under “PCM” in Fire OS sound settings because with any other setting Fire OS will encode OPUS to Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital Plus standards in real time and the audio gets quieter because it was badly encoded in the first place, better explained it’s not a legit audio. It’s a pain because i think Fire OS developers and plex developers are dancing different songs and when one gets in sync the other gets out of sync. I mean, you put Dolby Digital if you want Dolby Digital passthrough but you have to change to best available if you want Dolby Digital Plus passthrough, DTS works on both but for AAC and Opus files it’s better to change to PCM. What a pain in the ■■■■ LOL

I am still having issues with DTS. DTSX tracks will cause the video to not play at all. DTS_HD tracks will only play the core DTS track. I am on the newest firestick 4k Max, newest beta release. Tried with Auto audio settings and PCM from the firestick menu.
me too! I’m running Plex 10.7.0 , with the old 4k Stick it’s working.
Plex on Fire Stick it’s a mess if you want audio passthorugh. You can blame plex team, but you should also bark at Amazon devs because this new Fire OS 8 is 70% buggy. That said just use Kodi for now with IEC passthrough and you’ll be fine, install plex addon, disney+ addon and it works, you lose the fancy UI i know but i gues the priority is video playback right? You can’t do more, Amazon devs are aware of the Fire OS 8 crap they develop, plex team are aware and tbh VEGA OS is coming this year…

I do the same thing. Runs perfectly on the Fire TV Cube. Install Kodi and then add the Plex addon. Buy a USB network adapter for 10 euros/dollars and then I have 300 Mbit LAN speed. The only thing that doesn’t work for me is netflix framerate match. It’s a bug with the FireTV Cube.
@morganj Has there been any movement on getting this fixed?
Sorry, I did not know there was still an issue. I can confirm DTS X is an issue, I will file this as an issue. What would the other issues be?
Using version 10.11.0.183 (67e5c2db), on the newest fire stick 4k max. Truehd, truehd+atmos, dtshd, dtsx do not work at all.
I tried changing the audio formats on the fire stick to pcm, best available, and dd and dd+. I also tried turning off pass through on Plex.
Truehd used to work on it. It no longer does. Dd+atmos does work, but it’s going through pcm.
When you say it does not work what happens? I do not have any issues with playback other than when switching from some formats like AC3 to DTS X the app sometimes crashes and this issue has been filed. But TrueHD and DTS are passing through for me. Yes DTS-HD will only pass through the basic profile though as that’s the device’s support.
I will confirm tomorrow but it wont play those formats back. The media does play, but its either changing it on the firestick or it’s transcoding. This didn’t used to be an issue. Is your firestick audio setting set to pcm? I tried them all but I am wondering if maybe its not actually changing correctly.
