I recently got a mac and I can’t connect remotely. Incoming and outgoing seem to work but internet shows a red x. Port forwarding is set on the router and plex server but it doesn’t seem to be working. Is there a setting on the mac I have to change? Firewall is off. Please help!!!
I’m running Plex servers on a couple of different Macs using OS X El Capitan - and I didn’t need to turn off the firewall or set up port forwarding… Using an old AirPort Extreme as the router… A couple of things to check:
-
When you installed the Plex server, your Mac should’ve popped up a little warning asking you if you wanted to allow connections. You’ve gotta say yes to this. You might want to try reinstalling the server app. And/or check your Mac’s firewall/network settings to make sure that Plex Server is set to allow connections; if not, add it to the list of allowed apps.

There could be a problem with your router settings. First step, just in case, is to try rebooting both your router and computer. If you’re lucky this will clear the issue up on its own - it has for me before. And check to make sure that UPnP is enabled on the router - so Plex Server can automatically configure remote connections for you.
Messing around with port forwarding would be a final step you’d hopefully be able to avoid.
I’m guessing you’ve already read through these articles - but if not, you’ll find some useful advice here:
