New player on android tv not working

New player is working for me with newest mi box s firmware and latest plex.
No luck on minix neo, any update on this?

As I’ve mentioned in a few other threads, the old player will be going away, and we’re aiming to fix any remaining issues with the new player. If you have issues with, please detail the exact steps to reproduce, and provide some logs for us to investigate.

I’m getting the same issue as above.
However, the steps to generate logs on Android TV don’t work.
The exact network address to use to get the logs doesn’t appear anywhere. (Android TV 7.1.1)

It worked prior to the latest Plex Update. Now I can’t play any videos on my Android TV with the new player. I’ve tried every possible quality setting on both the server and Android TV with no change. H.264 is set at 4.2.
It works fine from the web player and my android phone, and my wife’s iPad, and my PS4. Just the Android TV box will not play after the latest update.
I can’t give the Android TV logs, because they don’t generate.

Once you’ve turned on network logging in the settings, you’ll see an IP address down the bottom right hand corner of the screen. It definitely appears when you turn it on (I used it yesterday). It should be something like http://10.0.10.21:32500/logging

I allready did post log files, but only one reaction to that with someone asking if you could have a look on it.
And i understand that you want to get rid of the old player, but with so many people having problems with the new player, why forcing it now?

It’s not being forced now, the old player is still there as an option. We have a forthcoming update that should address quite a few of the remaining bugs. However, my response before wasn’t directly at you, but instead at @FunkyBunches

I will capture a video later that specifically shows that the IP and port are not showing up on my Android TV box when selecting Network Logging.

In the server console it just keeps saying "transcode 250-299) or whatever and the number keeps going up and it never starts. Turning off the new player solves the problem instantly.
Why would you deprecate the less buggy player? The old one seems to be rock solid.

I can assure you the old one is not rock solid, and has plenty of different issues

Where is the IP address and port when turning on network monitoring?

I tried to 7z it and upload but whenever I tried to upload it would get to 60% and quit.

In the guide for android logs it is written that the port for android tv is always 32500. The ip of your device can be seen in the router or the network settings of that android tv device.

Yes I know that. I was just pointing out that the instructions the Plex employee were giving were false. Also the logs don’t show. It’s says connection refused even though it has UPnP enabled.
And I have manually open the ports on my router/windows to allow for the connection.

Then why has it worked for over 3 years for me, but every time I try the new player I get a new issue? With the latest issue I can’t even get the logs to show you what’s wrong?

If you can’t even connect to it, then that indicates there’s some kind of issue related to your network or the device itself, rather than just our app, I think (I’ve never seen anyone not able to access the logs before :man_shrugging:).

Would it be possible to change the error message for the android tv app to say something along the respects of:

Please restart the plex app and plex server and if issues persist, change “new player” setting to off.

When I first started experiencing issues with the new player, I killed the better part of an hour troubleshooting the issue, restarting the app and plex server, comparing against kodi w/plex, uninstalling/reinstalling the plex app, restarting the fire stick, etc., until I realized the “new player” could be having issues. If others are experiencing issues like I am, a decent amount of my time could have been saved by adding more detail to the error message.

I don’t know why, but I’m having issues with remote streaming back from a kimsufi server I am renting with the android app new player. When I switch to the old player or stream from the content on my local plex server on a raspberry pi, the error does not occur. This is occurring with the newest amazon fire tv 4k stick, with the newest plex android app, on the newest plex server software, installed on Ubuntu 18.04.04

I would love to properly setup logging and help to troubleshoot the issue more but I’m swamped with work until the end of July. In the mean time, adding more info to the error message may save others from troubleshooting the wrong cause of their issues, as what happened to me.

That message can appear for multiple reasons, some of which may not he related to the new player, so changing that message would not necessarily be helpful. If you are having issues, sharing the client and server logs along with approximately the time the issue happened and steps to reproduce :slightly_smiling_face:
