"New Player" doesn't stop auto-enabling its garbage self

I have no idea why I have to post this in the “Feature Suggestions” forum; when I try to post in the general complaints or questions forum there is a “no smoking” logo over the “new topic” link.

I don’t know how many times I have to tell Plex this, but I do not want the new player. It’s garbage. It’s terrible. I have four different NVidia Shield Pro devices in my house, and it’s complete garbage even on these powerhouses.

It consistently and repeatedly fails to continue playing my media. If I shuffle a TV show, no matter what show, no matter in what format, no matter what, it will pause during the credits and refuse to proceed to the next episode roughly 40% of the time. This means I might get to watch a whopping 3 TV episodes before this glitch pops up.

This never, ever, ever, ever happens with the old player.

STOP FORCING THIS GARBAGE NEW PLAYER DOWN OUR THROATS!! It should still be “experimental” judging by the hundreds of other users I found complaining about this POS new player going back MONTHS. People since 2019 have been complaining about how trash this new player is, yet Plex insists on making it the default OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I keep telling Plex I don’t want to use the garbage new player, and there it is, 3 days later, back infecting my NVidia Shields with its horrendous playback issues.

GIVE US A WAY TO PERMANENTLY DISABLE THIS TERRIBLE NEW PLAYER! IT SUCKS! EVERYONE KNOWS IT SUCKS! IT HAS SUCKED SINCE 2019 AND WILL MOST LIKELY CONTINUE TO SUCK!

I am disabling it YET AGAIN today; and if it comes back on its own again, I am permanently transitioning over to Emby and am filing chargebacks on my credit cards for any Plex app purchase or Plex Pass purchase I have ever made. This is beyond ridiculous and people have been complaining about this for AGES. The new player is not ready for prime time yet!! Stop making it the default!! And STOP ENABLING IT AFTER WE DISABLE IT!! WE DISABLED IT FOR A REASON! BECAUSE IT SUCKS!

Agreeing with the OP. The new player is glitchy garbage and it constantly re-enabling itself is beyond rage-inducing.

In before Lock and I’ll bet you guys will really be happy when they disable the old player… in 3… 2… 1…

Why would they lock it? It’s a legitimate gripe and something people have been complaining about since October of 2019 from what I can see.

They’re funny (not ha ha) about that.

The old player is a Dead Man Walkin’.
I’m surprised they haven’t removed it already, to be honest.

If they remove it, I’m leaving Plex as well. The new player is beyond awful.

What’s so bad about it? - I mean, if it works.

I like it. - It works.

It sucks and doesn’t work right (at least on any Nvidia Shield I’ve tried)

Informative.

Exactly what the OP said. Any time where you queue up a bunch of stuff, for example, an entire season of a TV show, it will freeze after a couple episodes and refuse to proceed to the next episode.

I don’t agree. I use it and I like it. Can’t use VPT with the old player e.g.
Btw you are doing it wrong. File whatever you want, but the correct way would be to post client logs when something fails and give Plex the chance to fix whatever it’s causing it.

Doesn’t matter how many caps you use, the old player will be gone soon. Live with it.

I am not sure how or why logs would help since it happens on every single type of media, no matter what format or encoding method was used for the original file. It can be episodes of The Simpsons that I ripped from my personal DVD collection or it can be new episodes of Dinosaur Train that Plex records with my HD Homerun. Literally 150 different TV show series and it happens on all of them.

I am using the latest Plex server on a Windows 10 machine with a Core i7 9700k and 64GB of RAM as the server.

In my upstairs it is an original NVidia Shield and in my living room it is the latest NVidia Shield. It happens on both of them.

I know that was directed at the OP I’m not “living with it” when it’s a broken mess. I’ll move on to something else if they get rid of the old player or refuse to fix the issues with the new player that people have been complaining about since 2019.

Just have a look at other threads in this forum where people also had problems with the new player.
Often, there were network issues like DNS rebind protection and similar which caused a general failure of the new player, regardless of the media. So yes, I think client logs might help.

But do as you wish. Still if it is broken for you doesn’t not mean it is broken for everybody. Because it isn’t.

I tried googling that but came up short. How is that issue fixed/resolved?

Scroll down that page.
Second hit for me at Google “Plex dns rebind”. Dunno if this is your issue, you haven’t provided logs. There, stuff like that comes up there.
This is like shooting blind in the dark.

The 2017 and 2019 Shield, both non-pro.

Plex server version: 1.19.4.2902-69560ce1e

I agree 100%! The fact they change our settings and preferences every time an update is installed is just plain bad form! I know it happens when my chapters are suddenly gone from my movies. Sure as ■■■■, there’s the new player back on.

I feel a disturbance in the force…
… a new VPT Addict is born…lol

Actually they do work in the old player - so poorly you probably never noticed them.

The new player is much improved in that regard.
It even has my approval.

I like VPT for some time
I once switched to the old one and wasn’t able to see the VPT, so I thought they are not supported there.
