New Player on the Apple TV

Also, won’t restart play after being paused and screen saver comes on.

Definitely agree that HD audio should be included for Plex Pass members. But, if the only way it is happening is if people pay a small fee I would be willing if it came to it (begrudgingly)

I also agree that HD audio needs to be added, even if it involves a fee for the licensing costs. Without this option, Infuse and MrMC will always be preferred. By the way, thanks for developing this player.

A purchase for the license isn’t unreasonable, and how Microsoft does it for headphones to support Atmos on the Xbox One is a good model.

Alright so, this is a really good start, but at the end of the day, if you’re not supporting DTS-HD MA 7.1 or Dolby TrueHD 7.1, then you haven’t really achieved very much… I’m happy to pay a one-time fee (or preferably for it to be included in Plex Pass), but unless you can get this going then I have to keep using Infuse, despite its overall much poorer app experience.

The text size on the subtitles tab of the drag-down in-movie menu is TOO BIG!

Otherwise, this is great progress!! Thank you!

Thanks for the sample files @ShaGe ! Seems it’s an easy fix :relieved: I need to check a couple of things regarding the fix but should be out soon :crossed_fingers:

Played with the beta over the weekend.

Overall it’s amazing. Things play so fast, no lags, Direct Played almost everything. Bravo.

Other than a few of the remote issues I know you’re working on, we only found one issue (and couldn’t repeat it, so I know this is one of those really pain things to try to track down.) We were watching a movie and had to pause it for an extended period of time. Not sure exactly how long, long enough that the screen saver appeared, but not long enough that the Apple TV went to sleep. When I resumed the movie, the frame rate dropped and it was very jumpy. Not sure what was going on Tautulli was reporting Direct Play so I think it’s something with the player. Exiting the movie and restarting it from where we left off fixed the problem. It’s not a big issue, just something we found.

I’m happy you like it!

And thanks for the report, I’ll file it and make sure we keep track of it (but to be honest, it doesn’t sound like a high priority issue for us right now  but it will be!)

Thanks for fixing the PCM issue. Looking forward to testing it out later!

Excellent update… so far no issues. Playback is instant.
Just one question - Thumbnails on the seekbar seems to be of very low resolution and too big. Any way / plan to increase the resolution?

Thanks again for the excellent update.

The only thing I’ve noticed so far is this new player is missing the double tap to zoom in feature. When viewing 4:3 content on the previous player, double tapping the touchpad on the Siri remote would zoom it in to 16:9. Other than that, this new player is great!

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

@Dhanraj-palani we’ll take a look, might be an oversight  But those thumbnails are preprocessed by the server, so it might be the best we can do. I’ll double-check just in case :crossed_fingers:

@MoneyBecomesKing that’s already implemented, but not in this version. Might come in later with subtitle size, but hopefully before end of the year. Stay tuned!

Just installed the Beta for the first time and activated the new player, but this issue existed in the old player too - In fact, it does this on the Web Player, so I guess this is an overall Plex issue? PGS Subtitles force a transcode, often to a lower quality, on a 4K video.

@jacobskp confirmed seeing same result running through that same scenario with my test files as well

Currently, if your 4K video is HDR, transcoding will occur with PGS subs enabled. If no HDR, it will direct play even with PGS subs.

I didn’t go through all of my 4K files (have about 90), but every one that I’ve sampled is displayed as “4K (HEVC Main 10 HDR)” in Plex. Am I unlucky enough to have all 4K HDR, or is there another factor? HEVC? All of my H.264 media is only 1080p - maybe I’ll mux together a 4K H.264 and PGS and see what happens.

It’s HDR, sorry. HEVC is fine, PGS are fine… 4K is only a problem if you don’t have an Apple TV 4K, otherwise is fine.

Hopefully it won’t be a problem soon :crossed_fingers:

Play/Pause button works to pause playback but will not restart the video when pressed again. Only thing that works to restart is to click the touchpad on the remote.

I don’t have this problem with the most recent build. Did you check TestFlight for an update?
