I’ve read the announcement about the new Plex apps for desktops. But I am unclear, if this is basically the same as the Web UI, does that mean we are going to have to do more transcoding due to limited support of audio/video formats? Or does the new player support all the same audio/video/subs as the Plex Media Player supported without transcoding?
I didn’t see anything about it in the blog post. Only after you mentioned downloads, I went through all the support links and found the line you mention. Not very clear on Plex’s part, It’s easy to think that a new app, that is basically the same as the web UI, might have the same playback limitations.
My understanding is that everything is direct play.
However, playback settings come into effect:
which might force transcoding.
Fair enough. Hopefully that is the case. I guess I’ll find out as I go.
The new Plex for Mac and Windows apps have the same playback compatibility of Plex Media Player.
Ok, so that answers that question… But why are you dropping the TV layout?
Where else do you think I’m gonna be using Plex, if not on my big ass TV, with Full AV Surround!
That’s pretty wildly off topic. Check out the blog post.
Off topic maybe, but VERY apt!
Blog post mentions nothing other than my Plex experience will be getting worse!
Oh I’m pissed I tell ya!
Cool, thanks for the confirmation.
Oh and @deactivated - No explanation or warning as to why my thread was deleted!
It was just deleted!
Sooo not cool.
Censorship like that is the way of Apple, but if you can sleep at night knowing the reputation of Plex is going downhill fast, then great!
So unimpressed!
There is already a thread where you can voice your opinion about the EOL of PMP: Killing PMP for Windows

@axemanuk666 ~ I went looking for the thread which was deleted, and it clearly fell afoul of our forum guidelines. You’re welcome to express disagreement or dislike of something, but you need to do so in a mature and non-abusive fashion.
