Has anyone else noticed the download option is now removed after upgrading to the new plex experience on both my android and apple device?
There is an issue with grandfathering if the person whom gave you access their server was made their account before a certain date. I was told this should be fixed in next release early next week.
Today’s update should fix the problem that „grandfathered accounts“ were no longer able to download items to the mobile apps.
Thank you for taking a look. I just updated the app and I still dont see the feature even though Ive been using plex for several years now, at least before 2020. Not sure what else I would need to look at as my server doesn’t have any options for downloads or anything like that and Im the only user on my server.
It does not seem to be possible to download a show anymore, eg to download only the next n un-played episodes of a particular show and to remove on next refresh.
This seems like a really basic use case that was simply overlooked.

Plex has said that download x unplayed is coming back but have no timeline. I do agree that should be a basic feature but since download still don’t do two way sync downloads seems to be way down the priority list.

Saw that with the update, I no longer had a Download button. Still had files in my Download folder.
I deleted and reinstalled my Plex app (iOS), on the basis of what you’d written above. Not only did the Download button not reappear, but all the downloads that were in the folder DISappeared.
Any fresh ideas?
This is more than a little annoying, removing a facility to easily download that’s been there for a decade.

I’m experiencing the issue.. Pissed me off..about to board a 25hr flight and cannot take my media with me..

Yeah, grandfathering definitely not fixed. I’m running a plex server with a plex lifetime subscription from way before covid, partner has an account from 2020 running the iOS client. Both client and server are up to date and have both logged out and back in. Still can’t download on her client and can’t find any way to contact plex to fix it.

Are you trying to download on WiFi or Cellular?
Completely agree and it appears that Plex has followed the Sonos root for software upgrades of removing all the key features then trying to claim qudos for adding them back later. Downloads was a key feature I used day in day out. Shame on you Plex

I’ve tried both wifi and cellular
Go to Avatar/ downloads/ Settings/ Disable Wifi Only
My partner just updated plex iOS app to the latest version and now it works! She updated in late April release, but looks like the May 3rd release fixed it!
