No, genres in the new system have been streamlined. This happens with the current agent due to different source (IMDB, TMDB) having different names for some genres - these have been classified correcly on our metadata provider now.
Same thing, this wouldn’t happen with the new agent.
This won’t change. We’ve done a fair bit of tweaking to get the best default posters but obviously this can be subjective. If you want a custom poster you’ll be able to edit it easily and we provide multiple sources for this. Our metadata provider is the source of truth for genres too - if you believe there are incorrect entries anywhere then reporting this to us is your best course of action.
Is it possible to get separate metadata based on different cuts of the movie ?
If it is, it could also be nice if you could look into the multiple feature requests of having multiple cuts/version of the same movie represented on the same movie.
An example being “I am Legend” with the Original and Alternative Cut. Or simply 720p, 1080p, 4K HDR or whatever, so you don’t have to have 3-5 different categories and people can select the desired cut/resolution.
There are two different things you’re discussing here:
Alternate titles based on the cut is something that could theoretically be supported but it’s not on our roadmap currently. For now if you want to do this you need to have two separate library items and you can change the titles for each accordingly.
Different media versions are already supported, this assumes that these versions are identical cuts and only differ based on how the files were encoded. All you do here is put all the files in the same folder and differentiate the filename based on the quality e.g. The Movie (2020) [1080p Bluray], The Movie (2020) [2160p HDR Bluray], etc.
Hi, the new scanners are significantly quicker than the old ones, which is a very welcome thing, well done guys!
I have a few questions that don’t seem to have been addressed before:
When I downloaded the new PMS, it didn’t overwrite the old one. I’m using Mac 10.11. Should I keep the old PMS in my applications folder, but just not run it, or can I delete the old version?
When new versions (of the new PMS) are available, can I update via the usual ‘update server’ option from within the new PMS? Some Plex Employee responses on here have told users they are using an older version.
Can you share a view of the development roadmap?
I’m wondering when this version will include collection support and be released to the public?
Awesome. I see you mentioned how posters will now be available from a bunch of different sources. I had two follow up questions
I understand that locked fields would not be upgraded. Would that include posters that I uploaded myself? As I understand it, a lot of the metadata is now going to be stored in the cloud, but these are still local, right?
For sources for poster art, have you talked to the devs for The Poster Database? It’s got some high quality art that might be worth including in the options.
Both apps will access the same application data so it doesn’t really matter. You can keep the old PMS application in there as this one should only be used for testing and should be removed at some point.
For these preview builds you should download using the links provided here and don’t use the auto update.
Awesome, I told the dev behind TPDB to speak to you. He’s been working on a custom agent to load in poster data, but might be worth collaborating to see if you can pull art from there natively.
Will we be notified in-app that we should come back here to download the update or do we need to just keep coming back every day to check?
In regards to the roadmap, I wouldn’t expect you to reveal sensitive stuff, I meant more of a summary of the upcoming changes.
Through various replies from Plex employees in this thread, there’s been replies to people questioning if various tweaks or enhancements are coming up, where the employee has confirmed if they are or not.
It’d be really helpful to summarise all of those in one post.
Also it’d be good to know if this is going to be staying in beta for days, weeks or months as I’m keen to have the collection and poster improvements become available soon.
round 2 seemed to clear things up (deleted first test library, re-added a new test library)

Huh. Is that a typo? Also, that’s not the actual title so I’m not surprised this didn’t match. Probably not a close enough match to any of the actual movies.
