Running a Xeon e5-1630 V3 CPU, 32GB DDR4, 2x WD Red Pro 10TB, SSD OS drive, it doesnt have a built in GPU for hardware acceleration (quicksync). My question is (and Im new to this so be nice) if I get a GPU card like a PNY Quadro P2000 or something similar, would this increase my available streams for clients?
What are my options to get the most video streams going at high quality? Is the P2000 overkill? would it be best in this scenario? I would like to be able to have my server handle 4-5 1080P streams with no hiccups.
You will have to get a P2000 if you want 4,5 encodes, any other consumer level nvidia card will have their Encoder locked to 2 streams.
The third stream will fail if it needs to be encoded.
For playing files locally, the best case is to not encode at all…Direct play is the best option and will give you the best quality if your client devices / local network can handle it.
AppletvHd /Nvidia shield clients will directplay play almost all 1080p content without any issues.
