i have 2 shield and both had the same problem , i deleted the server completely and started from scratch , it instantly worked , so my library was probably to big and it was timing out when transferring metadata
Mine worked perfectly and all metadata is intact after the move. Only issue is when I go to storage on the shield and go to the adopted storage, it spends hours calculating but never finishes.
I know the move has occurred since the apps now only take up 2.5 gig.
I just did mine and it only took like 5 min on a SSD drive. It’s showing 13GB for Apps… which would be enough to fill up the internal storage and cause problems. Looks like everything is working as it should.
Mine said it successfully moved it, but now the server says it’s running but when I select it it says it’s not available.

Logs could help. What’s the state of the server and the location (the old or the new)? Also, here are some things to try:
- Try to run the process again
- Try to manually start the server from the Plex App settings if it’s stopped
- If previous didn’t work, try to force close both Plex and PMS apps (or restart the device) and try to run it again.
It may be that during first minutes the PMS becomes irresponsive until it sets up again, but should only be a matter of minutes.
The process is self-defensive, it won’t delete old data until it’s fully copied to the new location
Hi in using this beta app client would you be able to use multiple external hard drives so can run all media as plex server on my shield please?

There is a new option on the shield beside the plex media server its called storage location.
It modify storage location so that you can install the metadata on external?
The option is cancel or let’s do it.
Problem is when i choose let’s do it it gives me 2 option both of them are internal {system storage location} or internal {user accessible storage location} if I choose the second one I get an error just saying it can’t transfer the files.. Just wondering why it’s not detecting my external.
When you get the beta plex client can it recognise multiple external hard drives so you can run plex media server from the shield?thanks
Just did the move to a USB stick mounted as external storage and it worked flawlessly. Nice!
Now, I set up the temp transcoding folder to the USB stick and that also worked without issues, I can see the transcoding sessions being created/deleted. However, it seems the sync transcodes are still trying to be done in the Internal storage? Is this expected and there is anyway to change it? Obviously, this makes the Sync feature unusable on the Shield. I was hoping the Sync folder would also be moved to external storage (there is a cache folder there after all) but this is not the case
Log:
May 19, 2018 17:16:49.991 [9235] WARN - Low disk space: 9.75GB source file, 11.05GB capacity, 5.63GB available on "/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/cache/Transcode/Sync+/20462817/d3"
Kikeminchas,
I noticed you said you set the temp transcoding folder the the USB stick. Could you please just paste me the path you used to make sure I am doing it right as well?
Thanks.
This:
/storage/34E1-41AE/Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/cache
The part ‘34E1-41AE’ will be different on your system obviously. You can check this by using any file explorer and navigating to the usb stick.
Kikeminchas,
Awesome! Thanks!

Same here. When I boot up the Shield, it shows Server = stopped and Storage location = Internal (system), so I start it and it starts a server called localhost with no content and my main library is still offline. It seems like what I actually need at this point is to instruct the server to look at my HDD because that’s where the content apparently is. Right now, my server is totally dead in the water. I’m going to start a new thread…
