New plex player broken (1.80.2.4006-b40ed11c)

Just got the forced update from the last version, now when i start plex on my windows machine I get errors
“The code execution cannot proceed because libc+ +.cll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem”
and
“The code execution cannot processed because libunwind.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem”

And yes, I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling directly from the installer off of here rather than the update and same thing.

Then when i go to install the last version from the cache folder it has AppSDKWrapper.dll locked so it cant be overwritten unless I manually go find the plex.exe processes that are still running and kill them, then manually delete the file from the plex folder.

1.79.1.3984-879339ed installs and plays fine

I’m having the exact same issue when trying to play some content (Usually 4k HEVC), both with 1.80.2.4006-b40ed11c and today’s update: 1.80.3.4008-03daab12. I’ve done both install/reinstall. I also uninstalled, deleted “Program Files\Plex” and “AppData\Local\Plex” restarted my PC and then reinstalled. Same issue still.

Both under “EasyAudioEncoder.exe - System Error”

“The code execution cannot proceed because libc+ +.dll was not
found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.”

“The code execution cannot proceed because Iibunwind.dll was not
found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.”

Before these two updates Plex Player was running fine and playing 4k HEVC content with no issues.

Exactly the same issue, whether installed through Windows Store or manually. Roll back this update please.

Thank you everyone for reporting. We have a solid way to reproduce this issue. This issue seems to be only related to playback of media with specific audio combinations (TrueHD 7.1 + Atmos and AC3 5.1). I’ve created an internal issue for this. If you see this error with any other media type please report back.

Out of interest the EasyAudioEncoder.exe got flagged by Windows Defender on one of my Win11 installs and didn’t update.

Same here. Windows Defender really didn’t like EasyAudioEncoder.exe when updating. Just on one PC though.

Rolled back to 1.79.1. No issues there.

Exact same issue and errors as reported by morbital. Persists on 1.80.3 as well.

Confirmed workaround, uninstall 1.80.2 or 1.80.3 and install 1.79.1

After install go to plex.ini (under “AppData\Local\Plex”)

find the “[debug]” section and add this line:

disableUpdater=true

Start Plex player, no playback issues,

Won’t uninstalling PMS remove all my server setting? My data folder is huge and takes 5 hours to zip or copy. Is backing up and reinstalling clean my only option?

This is not about PMS (Plex Media Server). This is about Plex player, which is a separate app with a separate data folder.

Thanks, I figured that out just after my post. So this issue is being caused by The Plex App, not PMS? How do I roll-back the app?

I came here because of the exact same issue. When I first installed the new update, Windows Defender flagged it as malware, but I couldn’t find any traces of it saying so after the initial pop-up.

Previous versions should be stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex\cache\updates

To disable automatic updates on the Desktop app open %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex\plex.ini

  • Find the [debug] section - add one if one does not exist
  • Add disableUpdater=true directly under the [debug] header
  • Save your changes

Any advice on finding older versions if we’ve already purged out AppData during troubleshooting?

Previous version that works:

Windows:
https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-desktop/1.79.1.3984-879339ed/windows/Plex-1.79.1.3984-879339ed-x86_64.exe

Mac:
https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-desktop/1.79.1.3984-879339ed/macos/Plex-1.79.1.3984-879339ed-universal.zip

You can edit the version in the URL, for example:

Version 1.78.2.3975-c5bd0cbb becomes:
https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-desktop/1.78.2.3975-c5bd0cbb/windows/Plex-1.78.2.3975-c5bd0cbb-x86_64.exe

If you want a different OS, go here: https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app

Select the OS on the left, then right click the download button, Copy Link and then edit the version you want into the URL as shown above.

Would love a directory of previous versions for easier downloading but not sure if it’s something Plex want to have public (I think there used to be).

Awesome! Thanks!

I have same issue seems to be with EAC3 & AC3 5.1 and 7.1. Please fix been like this since last two updates of plex player desktop for windows 11. We should be able to downgrade software for stuff like this and not have the program auto update when opening. !?
