New Plex trailers not working but legacy do

I was noticing a error popping up first but it would go by so quickly that I couldnt read it. By playing around with Agent and Transcoder settings, I was able to get the errors to popup so that i could record them. I was able to captures these two additional errors.

I received this one after disabling hardware acceleration.

I got this one when I was adding and removing agents under movies.

Not sure if it’s helpful, but as I mentioned, I would occasionally see an error pop up even before I started messing with the settings and I wanted to try and see what they might be or if they could shed some light on the problem so that maybe the community could figure out a work around.

The same issue here, i have Apple TV and iPhone, Plex trailers don’t work on both of them specially after i upgrade the movie agent from Legacy to the new agent Plex Movie, all trailer stopped working because they need transcoding while plex setting only direct play.
when i switch back to legacy and refresh any movie the trailer will work again.
so the issue is in the new agent it doesn’t support direct play trailers on some devices like Apple TV and iOS, while when i play the trailer on PMS it will work perfect.
i hope to see any solution asap because trailers is a great part pf plex.

I’ve got the same issue. Plex pass. Frustrating there is no info on this.
I didn’t do an update yet either so it is something external to my docker.
probably broken for everyone?

Hi, i have the same issue, but i went back to use the legacy agent and that fixed it, i think the issue started when everyone started to upgrade from legacy agent to the new plex movie agent.
try the legacy and refresh your library and trailer will back to work again.
this is the best solution for now till someone of the developer fix the new plex movie agent.

My apologies, but I am new to this, could I inconvenience you with providing steps on how to this is done. Movies prior to the recent upgrade are still able to play the trailer, and the trailer errors only seem to apply to movies added after the upgrade.

Yep it is broken…Running Plex on FreeBSD in iOCage and on OSX HW both on Version 1.24.1.4931 and trailers have the same error now “Conversion failed. The transcoder failed to start up”

Please Plex support, let us know what the issue is and get a fix.

Just want to throw in that I’m also having this issue since the update. The older trailers, from before the recent Plex server update, still work, but all my recent additions have the (at this point) well stated issue with trailers

I have this issue too.

Here’s what @OttoKerner said in another thread about this problem:

Let’s hope it suddenly begins to work again in 48 hours.

48 Hrs? Let’s hope it’s not “Another 48 Hrs”.

Unless I am missing something, I am using Legacy and have the same problem. In settings, under Agents, I have checked Plex Movie (Legacy). Is this not the legacy agent? If not, where would I find the setting to use it?
Thanks!

Same problem here and I’ve done a bit of digging (or rather the bare minimum but since no one mentioned it before) and found that the stream for the newly acquired trailers doesn’t exist. The transcoder fails to download the sub-stream for the temporary files.

To people complaining about the guys at Plex not responding. There’s an issue with non-admins not being able to playback music from iOS and Android at all since early August and Plex just responded a couple of days, maybe a week ago and even then they just said that it is being worked on but they couldn’t tell us in which update the fix will be. Since then there was this update just breaking more things. Idk if Plex lost all of their competent programmers the last few months but this is one screw up after another atm.

I am having the same issues, it doesn’t matter what device I use (smart tv, firestick, pc, etc…) It’s definitely a transcoder error. I tried downgrading and this didn’t fix the issue. Must be something deeper in the code since I noticed there was a big change regarding libraries when I logged in via the web browser after updating PMS. These trailers and extras are off site and not local to our servers. This is very annoying and I wish they would fix this. I am using Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS.

Little by little my trailers are coming back (Plex Pass), though it appears this is going to be a multi-day process before a full library metadata refresh will fix all of the trailers. I’m guessing it’s slowly rolling out.

Mac-Server Version 1.24.2.4973
They unfortunately have gotten too big for their own good and don’t even check their code anymore… Most software companies would have beta’s to catch this and your telling me that the beta didn’t have the problem and this version did? Come on Plex… dont be that software company…

Hey fellas , I originally posted this a couple of days ago. Today I just did another time refresh all the metadata and now everything is working. They fixed it without making a new update.
try and let me know everything should be good

I solved the issue by running analyze on the library-

Refreshing all metadata seems to have fixed the bug for me too.

I ran a lot of test with multiple movies and still I can say around 10% seems not to work but at least they started to fix some issues. Let’s hope everything will be ok soon. I will try to delete a full library where some were not working to see if with a fresh one everything will be fine.

To be continued

Yes many are working but still a large portion do not. As Sephrenius said, at least it shows they’re doing something about the problem. I don’t know how that update went out without catching it.

Word on the street as of the 13th of September, 2021…

“An issue has been identified with the trailer ingestion on plex.tv.
Please wait 48 hours. Then Refresh Metadata of a few of the affected movies (i.e. the movie for which the trailer is).
If the trailers are then playable, Refresh Metadata of the whole library overnight.”
