For many trailers (not all, moreso the recently added), I receive:
Playback Error
Conversion failed. The transcoder failed to start up.
I have a Plex Pass Lifetime membership and made that purchase mostly because I wanted the extras. Is this a known issue or is there an easy fix? I can’t figure out the rhyme or reason as to why some of the trailers play without fail and others continuously give me this playback error. These are not local files but those automatically included by Plex via Plex Pass.
I am so, sooo glad I saw this. I got a RasPi 4 for the last Reddit secret santa (holy crap those things are powerful now – it’s insane) and, after not being able to think of any other use, finally installed pihole on it. It’s great. Amazing.
Fast forward to today, two days later, and I can’t get trailers to work while on my Sony X900H. I just spent a solid hour going through queries, thinking as the issue just started it had to be the pihole doing it.
It’s not the pihole, nothing is being blocked. I wish I’d tested on my computer beforehand, as that shows a more concise error stating the transcoder failed to start (which is still weird).
It’s only happening for two or three movies that were just added, one of which was improperly matched and thus I had to fix it earlier today.
I don’t know if it has something to do with data being cached, but it seems like anything recently added to the server does not like attempting to have a trailer played. This seemed super weird to me as all of these trailers are hosted online and I’d always just assumed Plex was effectively just playing an internet video for me.
Adding myself to the mix as well. I’ve tried playing trailers on PC (web client) and Nvidia Shield. Neither will play trailers of any movies recently added.
I’m not sure if this will help solve or give insight into the issue but I am NOT a Plex Pass holder and suddenly my server is showing the “extras” tab and showing a trailer button next to movies I just added yesterday. Which is odd because I don’t have a plex pass nor do I have extras selected to be on. So I can see all the extras being offered on these movies (which shouldn’t be available to me) yet I get the error transcoder failed to start.
Figured I would jump in here to. Got the plex pass for the trailers also and it just stopped working a few days ago. Am a little upset they moved the trailer button from the play row down to the extras section. And now they don’t work at all on anything recently added.
I just want to chime in that the trailer button remains in the play row for me (and is also included in the extras section further down). Additionally, some of the movies that did not have trailers working are working today, and I am hoping that once the 48 hours pass and after a couple more metadata refreshes that the library will be fixed.
Just wanted to pop back on this thread and say that as of today (Wed. 9.15), after doing a metadata refresh, that all trailers are now working for me. That includes, past trailers of movies I know worked previously, trailers that would not play after the update, as well as brand new movies added to my library.
