New preview cannot cast

Hi. My Roku updated Plex to the new preview version. Guys, you can’t do that without warning! When I’m at work and my non-technical wife is trying to put something on, it’s frustrating.

Anyway, Plex Android won’t cast to the Roku. It forces the Roku back to the start screen every time.

they did announce it. it was yesterday… and before that, that version was part of the Beta version that they decided to migrate. Why is your wife using the preview version if the regular plex app is what she should be using? Either way, WINTER IS COMING! I mean, the new PLEX UI is COMING!

@jmarinuk thanks for the report. Filed the issue internally. We will investigate and fix.

Sorry, to clarify, I mean, the update shouldn’t happen on the Roku without some notice. That’s a pretty big thing to change.

We’ve been using the Preview version on all our devices for quite some time. Way back when it used that really ugly default Roku layout, the Preview/Beta one had the really nice UI much sooner, so I switched them over. I’ve put them all back to the standard.

I’d like to be able to test the new UI but, if it crashes when casting to it, I can’t. I can say, based on the similarities to the Android layout, that I hope improvements are made. There is too much unneeded stuff on the home screen that can’t be removed (Recently Aired TV and Recently Added TV come to mind). There are parts of the layout I like, but it feels like I’m jumping all over the place to find something instead of moving in linear fashion. Does that make sense?

I’m looking forward to the end results, though. Plex rocks.

One of the nice things about the new interface is that you can remove these from Home (and reorder) with the ‘Manage Hubs’ button at the bottom. We have these same hubs on the current app, but you don’t have these option there.

My mistake. I meant to say you can’t remove majynitems from each section, like TV Shows or movies. For example, I don’t want to see “Recently Aired”, but I can’t remove it.

It’s just feedback. My wife actually said the same thing when she tried it… That she had to navigate all around instead of just going down a list then selecting.
