Request for Roku Feedback ver 8.5.9+

Hi everyone!

First, let me start by saying a BIG thank you for participating in our Roku Experience Preview. Your feedback has been fantastic and has helped us fine tune this client as we worked through the backlog.

We are excited to announce that we are getting close to releasing this experience to all Roku users within a few weeks. Therefore, what we would like to do is to start a new thread where we are looking for feedback from anyone checking out the experience preview on Roku on the 8.5.9+ (that version or any later version) of the preview client. This is the spot for last minute issues and questions that you have as we work towards a release.

Please provide your client version and your specific Roku device model with any issues that you post.

If you are interested in checking things out before we release, you are welcome to hop in and join us in experiencing the new experience! Instructions for how to do so can be found at the start of this thread.

Thank you again for participating in the Roku experience preview!

Live TV Plex Channels does not show Season (just episode#).

Theme Music is not playing in the Preview App (I tried various vol levels in Settings->Experience)

Season Card: If a Background is not chosen for a season, or is blank, it will choose the first background in the Series Poster, not the one chosen by the user. And when there is an unselected background image in the Season Card, even that is ignored (but it will be used if selected by the user.)

It would make more sense when the Background is not chosen for a season, or is blank that the Background chosen by the user in the Series Card is used.

This will be added back in but is not a current target for launch.

For Live TV, include both Tuner and Plex Channels in Favorites (see comment here)

(While you said this won’t be in the initial release, I thought it was worth a mention here)

Thank you for calling it out and referencing my previous comments. For clarity in this thread - this was a design change and will not be present in the release.

I can confirm this on my Roku TV as well.

I used The Golden Girls as my test example because I know this series’s theme music is present and works on other Plex platforms.

Tested with and without soundbar - no theme music present.

Series Poster, n*ot the one chosen by the user.* And when there is an unselected background image in the Season Card, even that is ignored (but it will be used if selected by the user.)

Geeze, I can understand why they’re are ongoing issues with the new Season Card, but they’re are so many annoyances with Season Posters, Season Background images - it’s very frustrating.

What is the logic for retrieving artwork? Will these issues be resolved with new metadata/server UI fields at a later date?

I sometimes can’t even figure out where the art is pumping from and can only “solve" odd, artwork choices by manually selecting my own art for every both season’s Poster and Background.

I can fix a few series artwork for specific series related issues - I’m not a prude, but I can’t go through my entire TV Library and manually change every individual piece of artwork the GUI exposes.

** I’ll comment on more issues as they are mentioned as well as add issues that I discover on this latest build.

TV Series Extras Not Working?

I’m on Plex 8.5.10,.10532, and I can’t see my Series Extras anymore.

I added them (successfully?) about 2 months ago, but now I can’t see them….

I know Extras can be tricky, but I was able to watch them a month ago.

I have since tried a couple extra ways (and refreshed the season)

\The Block (2003)\Season 21\Interview\05 This Season's Steph and Gian.mkv

and

\The Block (2003)\Season 21\05 This Season's Steph and Gian-Interview.mkv

I’ve nearly always had success with extras / specials by using the structure

/Series
       /Season 1
       /Season 2
       /Season 3
       /...etc
       /Specials

and then ensuring that the “extra” or “special” is named something like Series_Name.Episode_Title.S00.EXX.mkv using whatever TVDB or TMDB has assigned to the item for that item. If the extra isn’t something there’s an entry for then I’ll still use the S00Exx (using my own numbering) format and it will work just without any meta data automatically added. I’ve found even with all the specials/ extras for any season being added into one folder that Plex seems to accurately process what’s up next.

Well, it looks like when I used the \season xx\extra_title\ folder naming convention, I forgot to add the “s” to the end of “Interviews” and that’s why the extras in that folder weren’t showing up.

Now they do show up, but it’s not ideal for my needs.

So, thankfully, no bug or regression!

Just noting here that we have seen some reports elsewhere today (mainly the Roku subreddit) about a possible issue with using the back button on Roku devices. This isn’t related to anything we have pushed in the preview app and we are monitoring these reports. If this somehow impacts the preview app we will do what we can to address. Thanks!

The covers continue to appear opaque/blurry when clicking on any movie/showtv. This error persists with today’s latest beta version 8.6.0.

This same error was present in the iOS/Android beta, but they fixed it with the latest update. I hope they fix it on Roku. Thanks.

@McWanke, fixing Live TV Plex Channels does not show Season (just episode#), is such an easy fix, that as it has not been just shows the users that what we have to say is not important.

I realize that you have placed this on the Bug List, but how many bugs are there?

Just an FYI this is not a Roku specific issue. The issue is further upstream and impacts other clients as well. There is an internal issue tracking it. Thanks for your initial and continued reporting of this problem.

It’s fine on the Current Roku Plex App, so I don’t understand what’s so difficult to fix this on the Preview App, and all the other affected apps

Bug Report: Roku Plex App UI Lockup After Navigating from Related Shows

Device: Roku TV

Plex Preview 8.6 Build 10

Issue Type: UI freeze / navigation lock

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Navigate to a TV series and select a season.

2. Watch any episode from that season.

3. After playback, scroll down to the “Related Shows” section.

4. Select a related show and begin watching Episode 1.

5. After playback ends, press the Back button on the Roku remote.

6. You’ll be returned to the previous “Related Shows” screen.

7. At this point, pressing any button (Up, Down, Left, Right, Back) results only in a “ding” sound. No navigation is possible.

Expected Behavior:

Pressing Back should return the user to the previous screen (either the show’s season page or the home interface), and directional buttons should allow further navigation.

Actual Behavior:

The app appears to enter a locked state. UI is visible but unresponsive to all navigation inputs except for the audible “ding.” Only workaround is to exit the app entirely and relaunch.

Notes:

- This behavior is consistent and reproducible.

- It seems to occur specifically after watching a related show and attempting to backtrack.

- No overlays or popups are visible—just a frozen UI with sound feedback.

- Tested on multiple series with the same result.

What does this mean?

Upon starting the new app for the first time, you’ll see a series of screens that show some of the changes from the previous (pre new experience) app. Once you see these and go through the pages you should not see it again.

On 8.6.2, when I navigate to a Library with “browse” as the default, the sub menu to select a library doesn’t go away when it probably should. The focus defaults to the first item in the library (which is fine) but as I click down or over to navigate library that “pick a library” bar is still there and covering the filters and some of the top of the library items. I have to click the “back” button to get focus into that bar and then click down again to make it go away (or select a different library entirely at which point it works fine). Looks like it’s just that initial navigation that isn’t triggering the sub-menu to disappear.

I also noticed that episode summaries take more time to load now and if I switch between episodes even slowly it’ll stick and show me the wrong summary for that episode; like it’s lagging. This aspect used to be really snappy compared to the Public release even on my older Roku devices and I felt was a big improvement so it feels like a regression.

I didn’t test it that fully beyond just trying to use it at the time since I’m not using Preview very often lately (I just have it on one TV for now and don’t use that TV very often) but that experience was different from the last time I used Preview so just wanted to mention it.
