Thanks. Found it.
- Either a bad file / multiple files (unlikely to be more than one)
-or- - Codec failed to download properly.
then there is:
- Client problems with the playback itself.

What else do you have to test this with?
FYI. I do not have DVR capability here (Satellite only)
Thanks for looking into this.
1 Should I do another down load of the current version of PMS or are there specific files I should down load and if so where should I go to get them?
2 Where would I get the Codec?
3 There is nothing to playback. No record has ever run right. I have manually loaded a bunch of videos in other libraries but they appear to play fine…
Android client? I ran this test from my windows client.
I have 26 active channels and firestick 4k, Rouku3, and a windows10 client. What other test would you like to see. I have run this from all three client and many channels.
Note! I have a four tuner HD Homerun that is connected direct to the second Ethernet port of my QNAP NAS and I have turned off the commercial skipping option for now
Thanks so much for looking into this.

I would download current Plex Pass beta

If you go into the Plex Library ( $QPKG_DIR/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs) you can see the codecs. You can delete the the MPEG ones and it will download fresh the next time you use it (it’s a momentary pause while fresh codec is retrieved) PMS restart is required after removing codecs.

You have the HDHomeRun connected directly (no switch) to the QNAP? If this is true, that’s not how it’s done. A switch it needed. Connect the HDHR to the main network switch. This is very likely the reason you’re having problems.
I will try the suggested down loads.
I had the tuner connected to my router initially and had the same issue. The traffic was all going to the QNAP box anyway so I eliminated a bunch of traffic through the router Live TV channel search works better as I detected an additional channel and live viewing runs with less buffering. There is a reference in the QNAP documentation that sounded like the two Ethernet ports are connected like a switch.
Will try the downloads later tonight or tomorrow
Thanks
Rick
I tried to do the changes 1& 2 but the link you provided to the down loads didn’t work. Is there another address? I did a cut and paste to my browser and also added a www. as a prefix, no joy.
Rick
I’m trying to be patient waiting for information on how to get my QNAP-PLEX system to record. I have everything working great except for the ability to record. While I was waiting for support I noticed the extra ethernet port on my QNAP and being a retired network engineer I figured I would try to connect the HD Home run tuner to that port. The change worked better than expected but didn’t fix the recording issue. It appears that I got someones nose out of joint by connecting the tuner and support has stopped. I know practically nothing about plex-QNAP and I’m dead in the water without help with my wife breathing down my neck to get recording working or go back to Direct TV.
Please help
Rick
Going to the Plex media server downloads i find a download (v1.18.1.1973) that might fix the files ChuckPA was talking about but is that the right update for my QNAP 451+ NAS with QTS 4.4??? If I go to server settings/general it says I have v1.18.0.1944 and it is up to date.
Everything else is working fine so I don’t want to screw up anything. I seem to be cut from support and don’t know where else to turn.
Thanks for any help.

Yes, the codecs did get updated for 1.18.1.
If you still have a problem, I will help you with the shell commands to go delete the old codecs so it will download fresh.
Chuck
Thanks I did the update to 1.18.1 and a restart but I still get the same error when trying to record.

I need fresh logs please DEBUG ON, VERBOSE OFF
I see the transcoder running, successfully at that, for Martha.
I also see DVR activity fail for

Is this what’s failing or is the AFTMM ( Android TV/Player) failing?
I see where the AFTMM plays a bit and then stops.
Everything appears to work except recording live TV which fails very quickly with a transcoder error. I have extensively tested everything else and it works fine. I do get some buffering and occasionally a dropped play of live TV but I think that is due to a Fire Stick that is too far from my WIFI. I have a range extender on order that should fix that. Just focus on recording live TV.
Thanks
Rick
Rick, Unfortunately, I no longer have cable or OTA capability so I can’t test and try to reproduce what you’re seeing. All I have for television is satellite (not one of the better ones either).
I will also tag this DVR-LiveTV in hopes someone else will be able to assist you.
You might want to look in the DVR-LiveTV threads to see if anyone else has similar w/ a solution.
I don’t think this is a QNAP-unique problem in any way.
Problem fixed. The live TV directories were not created and the libraries didn’t point to them. The instructions aren’t very clear about setting up libraries, the error message transcoding error was no help and the log files didn’t help.
The instructions for creating photo libraries makes sense and work as described. Live TV libraries aren’t likely to be transferred from your computer so the the adding folders and browsing for them didn’t make sense to me or likely anyone that is new to Plex. My first clue to the issue was that was able to record a movie from a TV station. Then I was able to compare the differences.
Again the instructions aren’t very clear but I went ahead and created directories in the file system for the libraries then deleted to old folders and added new folders that pointed to the directories I manually created. Now everything works.
Please update your instructions and change your add library function and change the label for adding/browsing folders to something closer to what needs to be done.
