I have a new plex setup connected to an HDHomeRun Prime.
I have found that I am not able to record anything from NBC, but all other shows are recording just fine.
I am able to watch LIVE TV for that channel, but can’t record it.
I am able to record all other channels.
When I do record it, it fails (after a couple of minutes) with the error “There was a transcoder error”
I’ve checked the server and no file ever gets created in the “.grab” directory. It will create a subdir for the session, but no video file is created.
I’ve checked the HDHomeRun Prime, and it is being tuned to the proper channel
The HDHomeRun Prime even offered 2 channels for NBC (regular and HD).
I unselected the regular channel and tried to record the HD channel and had the same result.
Also, I am not transcoding on the fly.

This is not a complete log file - can’t even tell what version you are running
Please always include full logs - preferably the zipped logs produced by the download logs interface

The error has been referred to the development team and will let you know when I have feedback

i have been fighting similar errors for the past two weeks… but it only happens when recording Dr Phil.
I setup a second plex dvr server with a separate hd home run device to troubleshoot this and sure enough the 4pm showing of dr phil failed on both servers with failure to transcode 3 days in a row I end up with a 4 to 18 minute files.
@baileyjs78 could you please see if the problem is still there with Plex Media Server Beta release 1.9.5 - available from https://plex.tv/downloads
If it is, please let me have fresh logs of the issue.

Not a similar error
The failure was because the tuner returned a 5xx response - could have been 502 or 503 etc - not sure which

my PMS automatically updated to 1.9.6.4385 yesterday and now this same thing is happening to me. transcoder error whenever i try to record TV. if I just play TV it’ll play sound but with black screen. the ‘now playing’ screen shows it transcoding audio, but doesn’t even list video. its not direct playing or transcoding. the tuner otherwise works fine in other programs. any help would be much appreciated
EDIT: i fixed it by uninstalling the server and re-installed 1.9.5.4339 and it is now working. that’s not exactly a fix, but it’ll do for now i suppose.

If there is a problem that is in 1.9.6 and not in 1.9.5 please raise a new forum topic with logs for the time of the issue
You have actually posted in a thread for an old problem that was fixed in 1.9.5.
The error could arise due to different causes and each needs to be investigated.

This is the exact thing that is happening to me as well. I could not find a link for 1.9.5 though to verify. If I run the HD HomeRun app, TV and audio work find. Nothing works via Plex.
I was able to locate a copy of 1.9.5 and I can confirm that everything now works correctly.
1.9.6.4401 beta Plex Pass release has just been made available

I can confirm that 1.9.6.4401 seems to be working. Only had it record 2 shows, but putting it through the paces now with multiple movies and shows recording all night.

Recorded about 20 tv shows and 5 movies and not one failed recording.

i tryed for example an manual record and also receive that error (not only scheduled ones)

any chance to raise “try” values … so a record wont get lost by 1 try and fail …
