New replacement Fire Stick 4K

Okay my old Fire Stick was getting slow. Purchased new 4k Stick for my 2nd residence after installing Plex app only to find out another massive CHANGE! Not the original format! Not meant to be for Lifetime users who have their own library! Ment for ad revenue pushing :rightwards_pushing_hand: streaming content I already OWN! So after calming down I click on the on live TV of course pushing their streaming services! I clicked on my personal TV which I have 12 tuners! Only to crash 4 times in a row! New install! So did the usual cleared the cache reboot  Nope CRASH EVERY TIME! And you give no options for Lifetime users to go back to the version that WORKS! Thank you wow now at my other home only to be able stream my movies! Not live local TV channels for news and weather you guys REALLY TAKE THE CAKE

You didn’t get the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, did you?

Here is the one I got. https://www.amazon.com/amazon-fire-tv-stick-4K-select/dp/B0C6W3D4RM

That’s the one referred to in the article I linked above. Unfortunately, you’ll likely not have a good experience with Plex on it currently (as the post states).

Has anyone tried older versions of Plex app?

So no word from the Plex coders? How long has this been broken? Why not allow the ability to roll back to working version? I bet Netflix works fine :slightly_smiling_face: oh all they care about is Plex streaming for ad revenue is working awwww again Lifetime at the bottom of the barrel

Best thing you can do is return that Firestick and get a 4K Max Firestick instead.

It’s not really Plex fault. Amazon has gimped that stick you bought and it has a different operating system as well.

The ONN 4K devices are an option as well.

They run Android TV and use the Plex Android TV app (same as Amazon FireStick).

They have a less cluttered Android home screen than the Amazon devices, showing just the installed apps.

I recently picked up the onn 4K Pro. It works quite well. It is very responsive. It does not passthrough TrueHD audio. If you need TrueHD passthrough, then go with the Amazon FireStick 4K Max or Nvidia Shield Pro.

I purchased it during black friday! No return. The TV is 1080 so the only reason I got the 4K version was for the faster OS not for the 4K. WOW Plex again letting the Lifers down

Nope! I purchased it for Live TV ! My library is TO LARGE for these Sticks including the Big Nvidia with only 3 gigs of ram. Next will be Belink GT-King has 8 gigs of ram Since Plex app is junk I will need to install CoreELEC and use KODI with PM4K to get high-end Surround sound.. To bad all those Raspberries 1,2,3 are obsolete because of the H.265 Have box full of those

As I said before - this isn’t a Plex problem really. That Firestick you bought was so cheap because Amazon specifically made it less compatible. Unfortunately they didn’t really tell a lot of people until they already purchased it.

Just an AI summary, but pretty accurate:

The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Select is heavily limited by its Vegas OS, a non-Android, Linux-based system that prevents sideloading, disables developer options, and lacks support for popular third-party apps. Key restrictions include no Dolby Vision/Atmos, only 4.61 GB usable storage, no OTG/external storage support, and slower Wi-Fi 5, making it a locked-down, budget-only option

All the Firesticks are JUNK LOL Just use any model and use Plex and do a search for HOUSE! And watch it crash over and over again! Cant do searches on Firesticks with large libraries

Yeah I had to quit using Firesticks once my library got too large. Now I normally use tvOS. I also use Channels DVR server for Live TV, and they also support imported media. They are mainly an Apple product but their Firestick/Android client app actually plays content pretty well (even 4k Remuxes), even on the few older Firesticks I still have laying around.

WELL! Just had a phone call from a unicorn! LOL, Amazon called me today after the review I left for the Fire TV Stick 4K Select! Wanted to know what they could do for me to take it down! Gave them the lowdown from what I got from Plex about the junk app not working! So they are starting an investigation on this.

Quick question: What version does the Plex app show on this new Fire Stick?

Quick answer, no clue. The stick is at my vacation home, and I won’t be going back for a while
