Amazon recently announced their new Fire TV Stick 4K Select and will release it on October 15, 2025. This device runs their brand new Vega OS and requires a different client app than traditional Fire OS. Our current Fire TV app is not compatible with this new OS so we’ve been working with Amazon on supporting this platform. The Plex app, with our new UI experience, will be available at launch but does have some limitations and issues we’ve found during testing. For those members of our community that are considering purchasing a new device, we want you to be aware of these differences in the experience, the app capabilities at this moment, and the issues we’re working on.
- Direct playback of personal media content is limited to H.264 with AAC audio and a bitrate of 7Mbps. Playing other types of content will require transcoding. We’re actively working with Amazon to support additional codecs.
- Some playback options like playback speed, display mode (original, zoom, letterbox), refresh rate and resolution switching, and advanced subtitle styling are not available. Some of these capabilities are not supported by the OS yet but we hope they will be in the future.
- Music and Photos are not supported yet.
- The Automatic Sign In setting will be added soon.
- Live TV: App may crash for users with a large number of OTA channels (200+).
- Live TV: Favorite channels may fail to load in certain cases.
- Live TV: When resuming a paused OTA channel, playback will resume from the current live airing and not the previously paused position.
We are working to address these issues and other minor bugs identified by our team.
