I like the media index files, but they need long to create, especially for large databases. So i needed a way to backup and restore this files.
Thats the reason i wrote a scanner for Plex to search your movie folder for existing media index files (index-sd.bif) and copy them to the correct plex media server metadata folder.
It runs only with the correct index files. That means you can not mix index files to different movies, that will copy the files to the correct location but not showing the index files. I think because of plex is checking that index files and movie have correct length.
You will ask “great idea to restore it, but how can we backup the files?”. Yeah i know what you mean, copy over the index files manually from the metadata folder is hard work and make no fun.
I was not able until now to create a plex plugin for that but i wrote a short php script to do this for you. You can find it on my gitHub Channel too. Please check install instruction, rest should be self explaining. The Database is needed to not copy every file again and again. Only new index files will be copied.
So here are the scripts
Plex Backup PHP Script
Plex Local Index Scanner
I hope you like the scripts.
Please post bugs and feature request here. If i have time i will try to add/fix them.
Use it on your own risk.
