In the new search, it isn’t easy to tell movies or TV shows from the DVR from those in libraries on the server. For example, here is a search on The Outer Limits:
The first two results come from the TV Shows library on my server, the third is from the DVR on that server. The only way to tell is that it is missing the play button.
First off, Jason, I love your giant “Fetch” (at sign) on your wall in your office. Since you are working on search you probably have heard the old stories that Linda Gates project “Fetch” (the dog) was the last part of Microsoft Bob to be retired. Maybe because it was the most relevant or maybe because Bill was her husband, who knows? Not sure if that was fallacious but it made a lot of sense either way (great sophism if so). If you didn’t know anything about that then go back and look at images - his dog tag is an @ sign.
I have qualms over the same issue but for a different reason. I would like to be able to disable the DVR library in search criteria so I see only what is in my library. That would be nice as it is definately confusing to me to if I am just glancing and not paying attention.
Also different feature request -
Over the years I have seen a few folks including myself query regarding searching metadata. It would be great on thanksgiving day if we could query “FRIENDS - thanksgiving” or "FRIENDS - joey turkey head"and quickly find the episodes with Joey and the turkey on his head, the Gelner football game trophy, etc (or at least thanksgivings). I always have to go out to the web to get that information. Likewise, at Halloween I’d like to be able to search for “zombie” movies - e.g. Night of the living dead. But how about the paranormal romantic zombie comedy “Warm Bodies” you can’t search for titles if you don’t KNOW the title. Ok, how about one more just to be obnoxious - your wife loves How I met your Mother. You want to find all episodes that have to do with the blue french horn for your anniversary, etc you get the point.
I beleive searching metadata would be a valuable feature addition. How else can you search your Gilligans Island to see a young Kurt Russell as “Jungle boy” - well actualy that can be accomplished searching for Kurt and then looking at his filmography for your libraries…
Though this exclusion is joined with excluding from your Home screen as well. What this means is the hubs that are generated (Recently added) or any you’ve created for your Home page will not appear. The library can continue to be pinned and accessible. Hopefully this can address what you’re looking to do.
Great minds think alike . This idea has definitely made it’s rounds around here. No current plans though.
Also, I’m not Jason but I’ll pass it along to him.
