I do apologize if this is in the wrong place and i have read the "how to" on adding music on the support page and have followed it to a T. The problem i am having is multiple artists will end up under one. For example Green Day, Seether, And Metallica may end up under Foo Fighters. What i dont understand is i get the correct album artwork and next to the song names it will say the correct artist in gray. its almost like Foo fighters is a genre? The files i have moved to plex so far have all been FLAC it that helps. I have a large music collection and would like to port it over to plex but i need to sort this out before i can. Other than this problem i am SOLD on plex its fantastic! Thanks in advance for any help.
You don't say whether you've checked these things, so try these for starters:
1. Are you adding these files to a Music Library in Plex, with the appropriate scanners and agent set on it? e.g. Plex Music Scanner/Last.fm agent (Not sure you could get this wrong but eliminate the obvious and all that)
2. Have you checked that the tags on your files are correct? You can use something like the free MP3Tag utility (which also works with FLAC files and I recommend - http://www.mp3tag.de/en/)to check this correct if necessary.
a. Do you have both ID3 tags and FLAC tags/Vorbis comments on the files? Only the latter type is guaranteed to work with FLAC implementations.
3. Try running your files through MusicBrainz Picard (http://picard.musicbrainz.org/) to see if it has the same problem as Plex. I do this for all my music but everyone will have their own workflow and music database preferences.
4. Have you tried using the 'Fix incorrect match' or 'Unmatch' actions in Media Manager?
thank you for the response. In musicbrainz i scanned the music plex had access to then saved and that seamed to fix almost all of it. One song is still in the unmatched section of musicbrainz and not sure how to fix that XD. I am going to do a bit of reading to get familiar with this program. Thank you soooo much for the help. One last question, if all else fails is there a simple program that will allow me to manually edit all metadata, create multiple tags, and in-bed artwork?
