I’m new to Plex and had a very quick question. I just want to use Plex to stream media to TVs and other devices on my LAN. I do not want to expose my Plex Media Server to the Internet for remote access.
I just finished installing Plex on my Synology NAS. It looks like Remote Access is disabled by default in the Settings page. Is there anything further I need to do to secure my Plex Media Server, to ensure it is only accessible on my LAN network and nowhere else?
If you have that section disabled in your settings, you should be set. But with one caveat: Be aware that Plex still requires an internet connection, and you’ll lose access to the server if your internet goes down.
If you want to allow access when your internet is down, you’ll want to make two changes:
In your server settings, enter your LAN IP range in the “List of IPs & Networks that are allowed without auth”
On your clients, change the setting for “Allow fallback to insecure connections” to “On same network as server”
With those changes, Plex will continue to work even if you have no internet. If you don’t set this up, then the first time you’ll lose internet, you’ll probably be very frustrated.
