Hi new here.
I want to RIP DVD’s place on HDD / Server / Nas
I use a desktop Mac, Samsung Smart TV
I need to connect wireless as desktop and router no where near the TV
Wirelss is not an issue as have Whole Home Mesh System.
Can I add a HDD to the smart Hub of TV and access from Mac as well or do I need to add a HDD to the Router ?
Didnt really want to invest in a NAS as quantity of data not massive
Any help appreciated
You’ll need your media files somewhere accessible to the Plex Media Server. The Plex client apps need the server up and running to serve your libraries and streams.
You need a server itself to run Plex on. This could be your desktop Mac, but your Mac would need to always be on at all times for any other device to view the content using Plex players. The topology would be:
HDD → Mac → Any client player (TV, phone, the Mac player, etc).
Plex is designed for there to be a single centrally-managed location for your media, which can then turn around and serve up the media to an almost infinite number of devices. If centrally managing your media isn’t important, consider connecting directly to the drive from each location using a standalone player, such as VLC on Mac, or Kodi on a TV.
For a simple setup, Install Plex Server to your Mac, so you can administer your Content and control how it is displayed with Metadata. Connect, External drives to your Mac. Allow in System settings/ Privacy and Security to be able to connect to your Media Volumes. Your content will need to Named and Structured correctly as per Ple x support articles. Install the app on your Smart TV from the LG Content store.
Then you will need to have if not already Internet connect set up from your TV settings. Adjust your Plex settings and Allow for Insecure Connections to your server, Add your Server IP address and port.
