New Transcoding slow with 1.25.0.5246 on Shield TV

Server Version#: 1.25.1.5286
Player Version#: Version 4.71.0 (web and iOS and locally)

Since the recent changes to the transcoder, I’m seeing significant slowdowns in the transcoding rate on my NVIDIA Shield TV. I have another Shield TV device on server 1.23.3.4707 that does not exhibit this slowdown.

I’m able to gather logs if necessary or side load older versions to verify this is in fact the version that caused this, but I’m pretty sure it is.

Even transcoding to 4 Mbs at 720p is still stutters and is barely able to keep up.

I have exactly the same problem since I updated plex media server.

You can see clearly the problem with x265 content.

Transcoding completely screwed on Shield for me too.
I direct play everything but had a friend complain today that a h265 movie that they started watching a while ago that was playing fine won’t play properly at all any more.

I’m getting real fed up with Plex seemingly having way more regressions than fixes, every update I wonder what did they break now?

I also have to switch to the older version 1.24.5.5173 because HW transcoding does not work with the new version. Is reproducible with me.

How do you downgrade versions? I’ve sideloaded developer builds, but I don’t typically have access to them.

I deleted PMS and installed the older version on the shield via “Send Files to TV”. I then imported the database again according to the instructions.

Still no movement on this bug. I have a second server still on the old version, but I can’t upgrade it until this performance bug is addressed.

My guess is there is now more CPU overhead with the new transcoder.

Looks like there is another thread with more details including Plex employee feedback.

Yes, albeit still awaiting any ETA on the root cause identification / fix from Plex…
Hope they can share something soon.
