I have been using Plex on my Xbox 360 for sometime now without problems. Today it updated, but now I cannot watch programs.
Plex see’s the media server and list all of the libraries, I can see all the programs that I have on the media server, but when I select a program it tells me that it can’t communicate with the server and to make sure it is turned on. I have restarted the media server, the router and the Xbox 360. I can play the programs direct on the Xbox 360 from the server PC so the Xbox 360 is connecting to the PC no problem, and as I said the Plex App is seeing the media server to list the movies, TV series and music, but just wont play.
Nothing else has changed apart from the update.
You may be happy to know that you are not alone in this. I have the exact same problem under the exact same circumstances.
Same here too, except that I’ve found I can play some titles but not others, the ones i cant play don’t show a title picture. I suspect that the update included some sort of “legal” filter to stop certain shows being watched from downloads. The file in question, won’t play on the Xbox, Wont now play on the media server, but will play quite happily in windows media player so there’s nothing wrong with the file. It’s listed on the server and on xbox but i guess Plex now chooses not to play them
rescanned the library on the server and the files seem to play on server now, also plays on xBox.
Just a note though I changed the file names of the titles not sure if that had any affect on the outcome
yeah that didn’t help for me still having the same issue the Xbox 360 can’t playback anything. gets a message that it can’t connect to the server. All other devices I use work just fine and dandy.
Has anyone seen Plex acknowledge this issue officially? I assume it’s not happening to everyone or there would be a lot more posts on this forum.
I had to downgrade the Plex Media Server to 0.9.16.6 from 1.x to fix the issue. It was the new version of the media server that is incompatible with the xbox 360 app. As a paid Plex Pass member, I’m upset with Plex support for not even replying to people’s requests for help on this forum.
@eric859 Give them a little time they are slow on the reply. They recently had trouble with Ps3 and Ps4 and it took about 1-2 months for a reply. While they worked on a solution in conjunction with Sony.
They should at least let us know that they are aware of the problem.
I’m going to have to agree. While I prefer Plex (It’s much more polished) I had to switch to Universal Media Server simply because it still works. I can’t be expected to maintain brand loyalty if I’m unsure the devs even know this problem exists, let alone be patient enough to wait for them to fix it. Face it, I’m using their product on an obsolete console. It’s entirely possible they may not even bother to fix this.
