I’m trying to understand how Plex relates to OTA and DVR, if someone can point me to a clear introduction. I see via the app (I’ve downloaded to Amazon Fire stick) various free content, but see no route to what I’m needing, to wit: I currently use HDHomeRun app in connection with HDHomeRun Connect, a NAS, and an antenna to a) watch live TV and b) record/play scheduled programming. I’m unhappy with HDHomeRun, but can’t be sure where in the chain the problem lies, am seeing other users encountering similar issues with “Unable to play channel: End of stream” error. I read from a couple users that they have no issues with Plex, but I’m left unclear what Plex is, looks like software to make use of my hardware, but can someone tell me what I need to overcome the error I’m encountering? With Free Plex I only see offerings that don’t seem to relate to OTA, see no channel lineup, recording capability, etc. With Plex Premium I only see audio, playback from media, services that also don’t seem to relate to simple OTA and DVR functionality. Thanks for a primer.
You need a PC or a powerful NAS to run the Plex Server software on.
Without a server, you can only use the free, ad-supported media but not your own files or the DVR.
If you want to use Plex for LiveTV and DVR, you need to buy a Plex Pass.
You can start with a monthly subscription to test things out.

Thank you, Otto, for the prompt reply. With “powerful NAS”, what specifies that? I have a Western Digital WDMyCloud, powerful enough? I think it’s 4 TB, probably a 5200 RPM disk, but not sure what’s mean with “powerful”. Thanks, I’ll read up on general introduction.
IMHO, the myclouds don’t qualify. There is Plex server available for them, so you can test it, but expect to run into limitations left and right.
