Has anyone found anywhere that lists exactly what hardware you need for Plex TV??
First you need a Plex Pass, then you need to follow the link in the blog post that says “We’ve got a complete list here.”
Have the same questions. Superconfused about the setup/options. Yes I see the list of hardware, but that’s not the whole picture. With apologies for hijack:
- Which client can be used for live/DVR? Says AndroidTV and AppleTV, just for live TV? But the nvidia Shield has issues writing to certain drives? But other androidTV devices dont? Any androidTV box can run DVR?
- Does any server option work? Mine is on a Linux server, with a roku front-end. Can I use live/DVR? If I get a androidTV, connected to my server, can I then watch live and DVR from that?
- could I use an androidTV box to record live TV to my server’s HDD, and watch back on other plex clients?
*head spinning
I’m very hesitant to buy $150 HRHD, $40 plexpass and $150 androidTV, just to find out if this will even work!
All the Live TV and DVR work happens on the server.
The server has to be connected to any of the supported TV receiver devices. (which are listed in here)
Right now only the Plex client apps for AndroidTV and iOS are equipped to show live tv from the server. More to follow.
Recordings made with the DVR functions can be watched on any Plex client.

I am also a little confused. It is also stating you can use google drive as the media server. How can I use the hauppauge digital tuner along along with google drive for Dvd functionality without the tuner plugging into anything? I’m either missing something or mixing their messages together
Sorry…meant dvr functionality
Ok, thanks. Think I got it:)
So if I got an Nvidia shields as a client, with ubuntu box as PMS server I could watch live TV/DVR. The local-storage-only limitation of the Shield wouldn’t be an issue as it’s not the server (?). Or perhaps I try it out with a cheaper Chinese android TV box
Of course the best would be if live TV would just work with my Roku soon. So I wouldn’t have to buy another $100-200 box at all! Fingers crossed.

Where does it say that?
Live TV and DVR functions are not available on the Plex Cloud server.
Looking back, I was combining ideas together I guess. So the only way to stream live tv to all my televisions (without using another computer/nas) is to use the hdhomerun and then use plex as my 3rd party software??

You need at least one computer where your Plex Server software is running on.
And the tv tuner device.
And one of the currently supported clients for live tv.
Got it…thanks!
