Sorry if this is an old, silly question, but I’ve looked and can’t find or understand the answer.
This is my issue:
I rip the DVD using DVDFAB to a Movie folder on my hard drive. I test it to make sure it has subtitles, yet when I convert to MP4 (using Handbrake), I can’t for the life of me get the subtitles that should be there from my rip, to show up after I’ve converted and sucked the movie into Plex.
So, because of this, I’ve had to go and find subtitles and re convert these movies to MP4 with the downloaded subtitle track, but more often than not, the subtitles are out of sync.
Is there a way to convert to MP4 straight from the DVD Fab rip and then to Plex that KEEPS THE ORIGINAL SUBTITLE FILE ON?
MP4 doesn’t support DVD subtitles or other image based subtitle formats from discs (same for blu-ray subtitles). You can change the container in Handbrake to MKV and tell it to include all the subtitles from the original file / disc.
Using Handbrake there should be no need to use an extra ripping program.
alternatively you can use a program called MakeMKV to directly transfer from disc to MKV (no additional compression/transcoding).
