I have a Synology NAS with a Plex server running on it. My OTA tuner is an HDHomeRun Extend. What I would like to do is starting watching a show about half way through it’s recording session. But it appears that is not how things work???
Can someone please confirm this is how Plex DVR works???
If a tuner is available, I can watch live TV and I can pause the live TV. But within the ‘paused time window’, I cannot fast forward…I can only unpause the continue watching as if it were live (I cannot fast forward through commercials).
Any show which is recorded on the Plex DVR is unavailable for watching until the recording session has finished. Meaning I cannot record a 4 hour football game and start watching it 1 hour into the game???
Bummer, I was afraid of that. I wanted to like Plex DVR, but for me that’s a show stopper. Maybe a future release will enable concurrent recording and time-delayed watching.
both pausing live TV, waiting, and seeking through the ‘buffered’ window AND watching a recording while still in progress work for me. This was all released a month ago or so. You just have to have the right Plex client app. I have the Shield which is an awesome machine. Fire Stick also works, and Apple TV works as well I think. Plex web works too.

Apple TV most certainly DOES NOT. You can only view a Live stream (and pause, rewind) but zero ability to watch a recording in progress from the hr start. Hopefully the feature comes on the Apple TV soon but at the moment there are many features of the DVR completely lacking from ATV (scheduling etc)
@jayz78, I will take your word for it as I don’t have an apple TV! In general, I experimented a lot with finding the right client app for Plex as you can have a VERY different experience based on what you are using (shield, fire, roku, pmp, atv etc). For example when I tried Roku, the interface would not allow me to schedule any recordings or peruse the program guide outside of the “Watch Now” section. When using Plex Media Player, there was no Live TV or Program Guide at all! On the Amazon Fire Stick, crucial codecs could not be processed by the device which led to transcoding (MPEG2). I read (Apple TV HD - Technical Specifications) AppleTV only supports H264 inside an MP4 or M4V container which is still pretty limiting. While I don’t have ANY android devices around my house (or phones) I found that the Shield is a very versatile and powerful machine. Not only can it handle MPEG2 video (so you can DirectPlay a recording without post processing, as in my case Comcast feeds are MPEG2) but LiveTV@1080 is butter smooth. Plus it seems to get all the Plex client-side features first (AndroidTV devices in general do). Finally it has the most complete implementation of CEC so the shield remote can control the volume on my receiver which allows me to PassThrough the audio from Plex and let my receiver decode it (the goal is to have one Remote to rule them all plus my receiver is BEHIND the wall making IR remotes a non-starter). Ok this infomercial is over!
