Newest Beta Dolby Vision Issue

I have a TCL R625 and tried playing A Quiet Place. The colors are very washed out when you compare the HDR to the DV, so those DV colors and brightness must be wrong. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

In fact, the upper right corner shows ā€œdolby visionā€ but once it starts playing if i go to settings it’s as if it were the SDR setting not HDR or DV.

Hi everyone. I found this thread while trying to figure out why Dolby Vision worked then stopped working on my Sony tv. I don’t have an Nvidia Shield like some posters here, but I’m using the native Plex app for Android on my Sony TV with Dolby Vision. I also have an Apple TV4K with Infuse using Plex as a media server but I heard ATV doesn’t support dolby vision mkv’s yet or something to that effect (still learning about all of this). So I made an mkv of Gemini Man using the latest version of makemkv and at first it showed the Dolby Vision logo on the top right but it also triggered motion settings on my tv so I was trying to turn off the soap opera effect motion settings. When I went back to play the mkv, the colors shifted to heavy pink and green. Now every time I try to play the movie, it plays in HDR and Plex File info has Video at ā€œ4K (HEVC Main 10 HDR)ā€. I’ve tried re-analyzing the file, but that didn’t do anything. MediaInfo app says the mkv of Gemini Man is Dolby Vision. Any help is much much appreciated!

Sony Bravias have very limited DV playback capabitilies and rely on external player to do DV processing for any DV profile except 5.
This implementation called Low Latency DV or player-led DV.
Long story short - don’t run DV backups on Sony TV itself
Only exception is XH90 with new hardware patform which supports TV-led DV, but still can play only profile 5 and 8.

Related thread - Force HDR10 fallback for Dolby Vision on Sony Bravia TV

Possible workaround for Bravias for now - use Kodi+PlexConnect plugin to play DV mkv by Kodi player in HDR10 without color shift.

Ah ok, thanks for this info. I’ll read up in that thread, if Apple TV4K with Infuse and Plex could do this, things would be so much easier hahaha

DV works for me last week on Nvidia Shield pro and suddenly its not there anymore

Plex Server for Windows 10 v. 1.21.0.3616
Plex Nvidia Shield Pro (2019) v 8.10.0.21869 (8fda0538)

I just started Birds of Prey (old file) and Transformers (newly added, never played) - BoP triggered DV on the 2nd try, Transformers triggered DV on the 1st try. DV is still working for me.

TV: Vizio P-Series Quantum X (2019) PX65-G1
Thru Marantz SR6011 (2017)

Can confirm DV works fine on nvidia shield pro. I watched shutter island and had no issues with the playback. I hope nvidia fixes the color issues though. I spotted the infamous red push on many scenes and the picture wasn’t that bright either (maybe that’s how it was mastered, I’m not sure).

Hi mine is 8.10.0.21860 (8fda0538) on Nvidia Shield Pro

How to get 8.10.0.21869 (8fda0538)?

There are only three ways…

  1. have a careless thumb
  2. type 9 instead of 0
  3. submit before you check the numbers

Other than that, I can’t help ya!

Your using Nvidia Shield on R625 and not Roku Plex on the TV itself?

 that’s what I thought too

Where are you guys getting 8.10 from?

I have 8.9.2 and that is the latest version listed in the Android TV release thread.

It’s probably the latest Beta. @sixones could confirm.

Its a latest plex beta version for Android.

I still can’t get plex to trigger DV when coming from 50 or 60 hz, even though plex switches fine to 23/24 hz, AND both audio and video is direct playing every time, it falls back to HDR.
IF i change to 23/24 hz before starting plex i have a near 100% success rate though.

Shield Pro 2019, 8.2.1
Plex client: 8.10.0.21914
Plex PC server: 1.21.0.3616
Plex Android server: 1.21.0.3616
TV: LG E6 (i guess this is the issue, as it only supports DV at =<30hz, so the switching to 23/24 hz happens too fast and then the fallback to HDR?)
Reciever: Onkyo RZ820

Also dosen’t work if i bypass the reciever (obviously choosing AC3 for direct play to work)

Got some logs? Also, what happens if you manually change the Shield to be 23.976hz first?

Sure: https://pastebin.com/H1ykEtMz

If i switch to 23.976 before i start plex it works, but i don’t consider that a proper option.

I didn’t say it was, but it’s a useful piece of information

I thought you had to switch the Shield to a mode that is compatible with the connected TV.

My LG TV only supports DV up to 30Hz. The Shield recognises this and only offers HDR10 in combination with 59/60Hz. If I want a DV mode, I have to select 23.976Hz which obviously has an impact on the UI responsiveness.

You seem to be saying that this should all happen automatically?
