Just did a manual update of plex on my Synology DS920+. The Plex icon disappeared from the nas desktop. How do I get it back? It still works but, having the icon there was better than opening up the package manager.
FAQ 34: Control Plex Media Server desktop icon visibility
You may need to stop/start Plex Media Server as well:
The first thing I did was reboot the NAS.
Did you do, from the admin/administrative user, grant the desktop visibility as shown in the How-To (FAQ 34) ?
Rebooting it won’t do anything until the visibility is granted.
Info in FAQ 34 solved the issue for me. Thanks, @FordGuy61 and @ChuckPa - much appreciated.
Hey ChuckPa I’ve looked around cant find desktop visibility under permissions for plex. can you give some detail on how to grant desktop visibility tks
ALL
Due to the confusion this is causing, we’re going to revert (remove it) from PMS on DSM 7.
Some will be happy, Some will be upset. Unfortunately cant please everyone because the DSM documentation doesn’t tell us everything we need to know about controlling this how it needs to be.
In the future, if it can be made 100% reliable (Always on by default) then it’ll be added again.
Supplemental:
If anyone would like to help me sort this out, I would be appreciative.
If we can make it work correctly (default = visible) then it will remain.
In /var/packages/PlexMediaServer/target/ui/config
Change:
- “grantPrivilege”:“all”
To:
- “grantPrivilege”:“local”
Then restart DSM
This change makes PMS mirror Download Station
This right here saved me. Thanks!
