Ive had this issue for a long time where nightly news shows only are able to record to a movie library instead of every episode. Only after updating enhanced guide data would it detect a series to record.
Unfortunately the epg I was using wasn’t reliable and would stop providing a schedule, so I haven’t been able to reliably use plex live tv until recently.
Now that I have a stable configuration that survives for more than a week, the real reason I’ve done all of this isn’t working, record the one news show I want to watch. This is even with refreshing the guide with enhanced info.
Is there a low maintenance solution for this? I just want to get every night episode for one show to record. This will possibly be needed if another family member wants to record another show too.
Isn’t that the benefit of the enhanced guide? Even if it doesn’t know which episode number is playing, the dvr should be able to assume it’s season 2021 episode 605 if aired on June 5th.
I mean for a news channel, each episode never plays more than once
Based on what data? Plex doesn’t even know it is a “news” programme, if it isn’t indicated in the EPG.
The enhanced EPG just tries to augment the EPG data with additional data from TheTVDB or IMDb or TheMovieDB, if it finds a match on there.
Since these are user-contributed data, the likeliness to find episode-accurate data for a daily news programme on there is very limited.
