I’ve been experimenting with many different IPTV providers and EPG providers (sometimes they are the same) and i’ve yet to find an EPG source that Plex can use to identify live TV series…except for Gracenote (built-in EPG that Plex uses).

Example. NCIS. It’s on everyday, and I’ve decided that i want to record every episode for future binge watching. The EPG data for that episode knows that it’s part of a season, and also knows what episode it is, but it doesn’t allow me to record either one episode, or multiple. It also treats it as a movie.

When using Gracenote, I don’t have this problem.

Is this a plex problem or is it that all EPG providers are not formatting their xml’s correctly?

If you can provide an example XMLTV guide where you see the issue (or some excepts showing full episode data for a few episodes of a problematic series) it would like help answer the question. Without seeing the XML it’s hard to say what’s at fault. (If you upload a full XMLTV guide file, make sure to ZIP it; otherwise it will likely be too large for the forums.)
