Eithe a button for next episode and mark as watched button, or just make it so when you hit next episode with less than 5 minutes left automatically mark it played.
I’m not entirely sure if I completely understood your suggestion… Plex will already mark an item as watched/played if you pass a certain threshold. IIRC that’s a % of the item’s duration, so it’ll be shorter for a a tv episode vs. a feature film.
Recently a lot of tv shows have 5 min plus closing credits in multiple languages. I hit Next Episode but the episode I just watched is still on deck.

Just adding that you can now configure the threshold when an item is considered as watched (see Video played threshold and Video play completion behaviour in Settings > [Server Name] > Library).
So unless you’re impacted by the bug mentioned by blackzwe (not sure if that one still exists), your suggestion should be already implemented and as of PMS 1.30.1 configurable by the server owner. I’ll therefore close this suggestion.
