I have the latest 50" TU8000 found here
I have a lot of 1080p movies that I stream from my computer that are 2:35/1 so they would be widescreen with the black bars on top and bottom. Well, when I watch these movies on the plex app on this device, they strech to fill the screen, so they stretch out vertically and it. looks really weird. Is there no way to change this to allow the files to play at their aspect ration they are encoded at?
Plex should be playing the file according to how it was encoded. Can you provide the XML from PMS for this video? Investigate Media Information and Formats | Plex Support

I also want to add, that I tried another 2.35:1 aspect ratio movie thats also HEVC X265 1080p and it did show up corrrectly without issue.
Your XML looks fine so I don’t see why it would stretch the video.
Have you checked your TV’s settings itself to see if it is in stretch/fit mode? The Plex app doesn’t offer this so it might be your TV.
Also, that is a bit old now. The latest is 4.29.6, which also has an option to try out our new 5.0 preview version.

Went to header editor, everything seemed correct, so i went to he video aspect ration type tab, and it was blank. I’m guessing blank would equal 0, which = free resizing. I set it to 2 which equals fixed. theres also 1 which is “keep aspect ration” I wonder what the difference is.
didn’t work. I also tried setting it to 1 for keep aspect ratio and that didn’t work either
could it be mkv? the other file that was 2.35:1 that displayed correcly was an mp4 file
Yes, it just updated for the 2020 version tv’s today/yesterday, and then I accepted the preview version @anon18523487
I noticed the mkv issues I’ve tried to play at 2:35.1 are all stretching full screen. no widescreen no black bars. even the 720p file I tried @anon18523487
Update nope just played an mkv file 1080p mr and mrs smith which was shown correctly :scratches head
I don’t know if Plex even looks at these.
Not sure but worth checking. Remux the file and see if you get the same result.
had an mkv file show correctly same resolution and aspect ratio, so no problem with all mkv files
