No 50’s love in PlexAmp?

Just wondering why there’s no 50s decade radio in PlexAmp? I have tons of 50’s albums in my library… :frowning:

50s Decade radio shows up here.
Are your albums tagged with the correct years of release?

Ugh… So yes, my ID3 tags are correct down to the track level. But since I’m not using “Prefer local metadata” in my Music library, all of these albums are shown by the reissue date. (Lots of Buddy Holly and the Everlys in the 80’s, apparently.)

I continue to question whether unchecking “Prefer local…” was the right move since I have good tagging. The Plex docs really push keeping it unchecked, but here’s an example…

Yeah, I already guessed that this may be the problem.
I’m currently rebuilding my music library with only my own tags. Works pretty well, especially since release dates and genres can vary wildly if you use the automatic tagging (and I do have a lot of “old” stuff too).

You can enable it, provided both your folder structure and your tags are 100% perfect.

Enabling this is wreaking havoc on your sampler albums, if you have tracks and albums with differing Album Artist stored inside the same AlbumArtist folder. That’s the main reason why the docs are discouraging it.

But once you have that sorted out, you can do “music enthusiast” things better, like having several versions of the same album separated properly etc.

The threshold for these stations appearing is 15 albums. This can be adjusted by changing the hidden RadioDirectoryThreshold preference.

Good to know. Thanks, @elan! I think the question for me at this point is whether to switch over to preferring my own tags. My tags are in great shape, I’m just fearful of losing cool functionality down the road.

plex will still ‘match’ your music internally, even if you have prefer local tags, so everything should work.

Mine library is all use local metadata, and it works fine.

You do need to keep the other external metadata enabled.

And if you use tag genre, you will get genre radios instead of style (from allmusic).

I don’t have a config.json file. I uninstalled, removed the Plexamp folders from Local and Roaming.

Re-installed 3.01 and I still can’t find config.json - do I have to create it?

Do you get Moods and Genres?

I have carefully curated metadata and have external metadata enabled but most of the radio station types are empty.

I do and they work, but I don’t normally use them so can’t say how well they match up with the actual tags (I suppose that would be more of a server issue).

I use mix builder, or one of m always random playlists.
