Mood Radio, Genre Radio and Decade radio result in a second screen with options.
Selecting any of the options results in a circle on the screen going round and round but nothing else happens.
Decade Radio doesn’t have options for 1950’s, 1940’s or 1930’s
Library radio always plays the same song to start.
Do you have actually albums from these eras?
I wonder if your music library has ever been converted properly to use the new music program code in Plex.
Take a look into the properties of your library, on the ‘Advanced’ tab.
What has been selected as Scanner and Agent?
Dito.
Also, how big and diverse is your library? How many different album artists are there?
Scanner is “Plex Music”, Agent is Plex Music.
Not sure how many artists, but at a guess around 8,800 artists with have around 49,500 tracks.
And yes I have tracks dating from those decades and I would say around 99% have with correct mp3 tags. (They need to be for my DJ software)
Did y somehow disable download of popularity data or “related” artists?
If you didn’t, the stalling could actually be caused by your server trying to build the playlist for you. But due to the size of your collection, this takes unusually long.
I have no idea what that means. If that’s on my server let me know where and I will check it.
If it’s on the Plexamp all I did was download it and run it.
I appreciate your help.
OK, I think we can safely assume that you did nothing to hamper Plex’s music handling.
Then I think sentences 2 and 3 of my previous post do apply.
Can you try and let it “spin” for longer? Maybe it comes 'round by itself with a delay.
Will do.
Have noted the start time as 18:27 my local time.
Will let you know if anything happens.
Now 18:40 No change, still going round and the server is saying nothing connected, and the bandwidth, CPU and RAM haven’t moved.
Are you using Plexamp on mobile or on desktop? I’d like to forward the logs.
Logs can be obtained on mobile in the Settings - Advanced - Debugging menu.
On Desktop (Windows) you’lll find them in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Plexamp\Plexamp\Logs
Sorry, it’s Plexamp Android.
Didn’t know there was a Windows version - will try that and report back here in a few minutes.
Tried running the Windows version for 5 minutes - exactly the same.
FYI Both the Android device and my Windows PC work 100% ok with the standard Plex apps.
I now have both log files - how do I get them to you?
PM me. Click on my avatar picture and Message.
Thanks for the logs! I have forwarded them to the devs.
Did you hear back from the Devs?
The mood and genre radio selection are still not working for me on Android and PC.
I also find that when I play a radio (say I have a large mix of artists in the radio) it always starts with the same album of the first artist. I sort of understand starting with the first artist, but I don’t understand starting with the same album every time. The one I know for sure it happens with has 7 albums. Doesn’t make sense it always starts with the same album. Isn’t even the first album that plex shows me when I go to that artist.
Your logs have been inspected. I was told it has simply to do with a lack of diversity. You seem to have too few albums of each genre, style or decade.
Have you created custom “albums”, where you collect all tracks of a certain style all in one or very few albums?
The server has a default threshold of 15 albums, below which it doesn’t allow to start a radio.
You can experiment with the hidden server preference RadioDirectoryThreshold
and assign a lower value than 15 in there. But it might not be very satifying.
As a DJ for over 45 years, I can assure you that I really do have quite a diversity of styles, genres and years.
I have 1547 albums, with approximately 51,000 tracks from the 1920’s to today in my Plex database. I Have around 1400 Artists.
My collection is stored in the albums that the songs were bought in. Eg /music/VA/Now/Now21
Where I have bought indiviual MP3’s they are in larger album eg:- /music/VA/Alphabetic/A-B
Every one is correctly MP3 tagged with year, genre etc etc.
Pretty sure that this is NOT the reason it’s not working.
None of the genres, years or moods do anything, I just get the circle going round and round.
There has to be another reason it doesn’t work.
I have had a thought… Am I right in thinking PlexAmp doesn’t use the actual Artist name from the mp3, only the Album Artist name?
If this is the case and you have hundreds of compilation albums full of different artists, they would all be treated as the same artist. (Various Artists) instead of the actual real artists name.
Plexamp doesn’t do it differently than all the other Plex clients.
Yes, the Album Artist is mainly used when ingesting media and you can only browse by AlbumArtist.
Which leaves a lot to be desired when trying to work with any VA compilation/album.
But as I mentioned, that is pretty much the same in all Plex clients.
Ah ok.
But I do feel that with my collection of songs PlexAmp should be able to play me something from on it’s radio channels.
The ONLY radio channel that works is the ‘Random Album’ channel.
Library, Time Travel, Genre, Mood and Decade Radio do nothing apart from display the circle going around. I would guesstimate that at least 98% (Around 48,000 tracks ) have a year in the tag…
Mix Builder works fine after I add artists to it, but nothing else in the channels does.
I know that it’s a free app, but there really has to be something wrong when it works for other people with much smaller libraries than me.
