Confusion over stations in Plexamp. Calm and Peaceful radio plays a mix of calm and not peaceful

I am confused as to what Plex is looking at for its stations. For instance, the calm/peaceful station. I would think my collection of Enya music would end up here. But instead the first song up is “Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins. A great song. But certainly not calm or peaceful. In addition a number of Christmas Music is ending up here as well.

UPDATE: edited to clarify. I am referring to audio/music files.

We use metadata from TiVo (which also powers allmusic.com). Some of it is great, some of it leaves you wondering, but it’s generally known to be the best available.

Thanks for the quick response. My message maybe confusing, I was not referring to tv stations, but music. I am using plexamp.

I see now where you can edit the tags of each track. Man, a bunch of mine are either wrong or blank! No wonder the station function is not working as it should. New project – edit track tags.

I knew you were talking about music; TiVo sells music metadata (along with a lot of other stuff).

Make sure you’re using the latest music library, and sometimes a metadata refresh can help.

The stations are generated at the album tag level.

No track level moods which has been a thorn for me for a long time. Albums have a variety of moods but radios are song based so often you get an “aggressive” song in a “calm” radio because the album is marked as “calm” AND “aggressive” due to a mix of songs in the album.

Ah! Thank you. So TiVo is giving these tracks metadata like mood and genre? Interesting. Is there a way to download this data like Musicbrainz Picard-style?

By the way, where can I find more info on all the tags preloaded into plex?

Yes, I see that. I’m having to go through my entire collection to look at these tags. Ugh!

I am surprised to see some have a lot and some have none.

Good to know, thanks.

For track level, try our Sonic features, they provide much better track-level relationships than the metadata.
