No Audio on The Producers (2005)

Server Version#: 3.5.6
Player Version#: 2.1.3

Hi!
After putting an MKV of the 2005 film The Producers on my Server the audio on my TVs doesn’t work. It’s fine when I play the file directly on my PC, but on through Plex my TVs don’t properly identify the audio tracks (just listing one “unidentified” one) and not playing back any audio. When I attempt to play over the web app on my PC the film doesn’t start playing at all.

I am honestly kind of lost my VLC would be playing back the file fine while Plex struggles

It being the movie “The Producers” doesn’t provide any useful info. Is this a file you ripped yourself from a DVD? what sort of audio does it have? if it has multiple audio tracks what type are they all? what type is the one being recognized?

when you say

does that mean in the Plex web or Plex desktop app on your PC or are you talking about VLC

VLC, the plex app on PC doesn’t play the file at all

ok so what type of file is it? what sort of audio stream(s) does it have?

It’s an MKV with a 2304kb/s audio stream not sure how to check the properties of the streams inside the mkv container

see Plex XML info

I recommend you to get this as well. IMHO, it belongs into everyone’s software toolbox who is dealing with media files:
download mediainfo here
(pay attention during installation, it comes with a ‘piggybacked’ installer which asks to install additional crapware. Make sure to set/clear the right checkboxes!)

Once it is installed, analyse the file, then go to:
File - Export - Text (Advanced mode)

In VLC there should be a “view Media Information” somewhere. I’m on a Mac so not sure if the Windows versions has it in the same place but on Mac it is in the Window menu then select Codec Details

Looks like the dts for the relevant ones. But the weird thing is that plex doesn’t list any of them

Can you try to analyze the file and see if it picks up the streams.

Plex

Oh wow yeah that fixed it! Guess the initial scanning didn’t quite do it…
