No audio

How come on certain movies it says no video no audio on the desktop & xbox but when I press play the video shows but there’s no audio but when I play it through the VLC there’s no problem with the audio its fine all the movies are MKV

This article might shed some light on what is going on.

it doesn’t say how to fix it

The browser and xBox will not play some types of audio but VLC will transcode on the Fly. That where Plex should step in. Exception seems to be True HD 7.1 channel , HD-MA 7.1, Atmos

the movie worked before on xbox & desktop now it dont work just shows the video no audio and some of my movies that used to show the video quality & what type of audio it is now it dont just says none for both i have to rip it again into an mkv file for it to work

It would be best if you post xml file from the server of a affected Title.

For Example it should look like this.

In your server, click on the vertical ellipsis bottom right of file poster, scroll down to Info / xml/ screenshot

my laptop not letting me take a screenshot

Copy and paste into a txt file

…and drag that txt file to a message window and drop it…

alt/printscreen grabs the active window
ctl/v pastes that to ‘Paint’ (or to a message window - if you don’t ‘edit/crop’)

i figured out how to do the screenshot im just trying to figure out how to cut it

The best way is to highlight everything between the container tags, hold ctl and press c.

hold ctl and press v - pasting it to a message window - like this:

Well, I think we can safely say our XML info shows we have an audio track…
…and yours don’t.

I think the problem lays somewhere in that area…

ok but how did it happpen it was working before and why it works in vlc

My crystal ball rolled off the coffee table and broke a while back - my magical powers are… gone.

Try to analyse that file - or Plex Dance it:

Until you get XML with an audio section, my guess is Plex won’t be able to get any audio out of it.

ill try this hopefully its works thanks for your help

Go to the file pre-play screen, under the dots, Analyse.

Wait a few minutes - until the gears stop whirring and buzzing.

Then try to play it and/or grab a new xml.

If that doesn’t work - Plex Dance.
