no audio settings? (rpi 3 B)

fresh install of 1.6.2.123 (the RPi2.arm) on a RPi3 (was that right? There was no installer choice that mentioned 3 explicitly). I’m driving an HDMI monitor with no sound, and would like to enable analog out while leaving the video out on HDMI. BUT the system preference menu does not include an Audio section at all (what’s up with that?).

Using SSH, tvservices -a prints nothing. Is there a cmdline or config file way to force this? Other commands to tell me about the state of audio on this board?

This is correct. rPi2 and rPi3 devices run on the same builds at the moment.

The ‘tvservices -a’ command will show you the audio capability of the HDMI connected device. Since your monitor has none, a blank return would be correct.

If you absolutely have no audio settings in: PREFERENCES > SYSTEM > AUDIO OUTPUT

You most likely have a corrupted SD card.

You’ll most likely need an HDMI Audio Extractor.

An HDMI Audio Extractor would give better quality sound then the built in stereo jack. But I think the issue here is @quietplease is unable to locate the audio output settings for some reason.

My thoughts are that if/when @quietplease does find the audio output settings that it will be disappointing.

Found them, thanks. Now I can’t remember how I ever missed them.

Sound happens now. And yes, an HDMI extractor is the next thing to try (answering the question why would I buy a HifiBerry Digi for optical out if I can get it from the HDMI). I’m simply kicking the tires on this thing as it’s my first RPi.
