@justinsch1 Got the new log. Are you able to download from your own server? I’m seeing the same type of error talking to your server too.
I don’t have any content on my own server to download yet…
Can you create a library (even an other video) and just add 1 thing to test? I wonder if having an empty server is causing this issue.
I agree with @kcasu5 that this new policy is horrible. My daughter is heading to college this weekend and she’s been a managed user on my plex for a long time but yet she is unable to download anything to playback while traveling. I searched the support articles and I’m confused as well as to who can download for playback.
Managed users should be able to download from your server as long as you’ve allowed her to do so in her sharing profile.
Edit - That has not changed.
I verified that enable downloads is checked under restrictions on her profile. Are there any other settings I must change?
Are you sharing an entire library or just specific items so they show up under the “shared” tab? You cannot download “shared” items so you won’t see the option for these.
I’m sharing entire libraries. I don’t if this is related but I had two instances of plex running at one time in my home. I have removed one of them but it still show up on her account as offline. I have been unable to remove it.
To remove an older server, you need to remove the server from your list under “authorized devices”.
I looked into your account and I only see you sharing to 1 managed user starting with “m” and they do not have the download option enabled for them. Try toggling the download button off and back on.
The offline q server is not listed under “authorized devices” so nothing to delete. I toggled the “enable download” button on her profile but it didn’t work. I actually have two M accounts. I logged into the other account and same thing, I can’t download.
Oh sorry , was looking at the wrong thing. I do see both managed users and they both do have the downloading option enabled. What Plex app are you using?
I’m using the chrome web app. I can see the download option listed when I click on the three dots for a particular movie in my account but I don’t see the download option when I switch to a managed users account.
Ah, that is not the “Downloads” feature. That is a direct download like saving a file from a website. That is only available to the admin. It saves the file to your regular downloads folder, it does not use Plex’s “Download” feature. This won’t work for a managed user.
If you like that interface and want the managed users to be able to “Download” use the Plex for Windows app.
Sorry, I didn’t realize the download for playback was different. I tried it on my mobile device under one of M accounts and it almost downloaded. Does the download happen in the background or does the mobile device need to unlock the entire time. I walked away and when I came back, It seems to stuck at 98% complete.
It can work in the background, but the OS may kill it. If you keep it on that Downloads page, the app stay running in the foreground.
