No HDR10+ with Plex on new AppleTV 4K 2022

Plex is not able to show HDR10+ on the new AppleTV 4k 2022, Infuse is working.

Wondering if Plex needs a update to support HDR10+?

it’s the same for me. infuse doesn’t work either.

Yes, we would need to update to support HDR10+. We generally don’t get devices ahead of release time, which means we generally won’t be able to guarantee new things will work at release.

Hi Dave,

Appreciate you being responsive. I bought a new AppleTV today for HDR10+.

Any idea how long this might take? Are we talking days, weeks or months? I ask only because I’m wondering if its worthwhile setting up a different service during the down time…

It’s a bit annoying, but I found that if I remux to .m4v (I use Subler on a Mac and it uses this extension instead of .mp4) HDR10+ files can be direct-played with the Old Player (AV player), with HDR10+ passed to the TV, lossy Atmos as well.

FWIW this also passes Dolby Vision to my other TV, and can even pass along Atmos via Spatial Audio to AirPods. Just passing along in case this works for your use case, instead of Infuse (which is great, too)

Thanks for sharing, I’ll give this a try… would be nice to keep everything in Plex vs. jumping to a different player for certain titles.

I think I waited 3 years for the Apple TV app to play mkv without transcoding…

Am also interested in this feature. I just picked up the new AppleTV and was disappointed to learn HDR10+ still doesn’t work. Hopefully this is on Plex’s radar.

I’m also looking forward to this being implemented. I have HDR10+ and DV content that is being downgraded to HDR10.
