No live tv with cablecard?

Reading over the press release it appears this is not supported. This is extremely disappointing as the only channels I care about watching live are the cable sports channels. I would also now need to purchase additional devices just to get live tv on limited channels. Will those of us with cablecard devices be able to watch live in the future?

where did you read that? That is DISAPPOINTING!

I don’t see where it says CC HDHOMERUN isn’t supported. I see DRM channels are not but Comcast doesn’t DRM anything but it’s premium channels, i.e. HBO, Showtime, etc.

well there is no mention of cablecards anywhere and lots of mentions of digital antenna, limited channel lineup, ota devices etc.

i don’t see why there would be a special mention. As long as it says HDHR supported, i think that implies cablecard HDHR is supported. Now I definitely think that DRM channels are not supported (because they never have been) so this would have to be explicitly spelled out if there is a change in support.

It does work on my HDHOMERUN PRIME w/CC. Just not DRM channels.

Would like some clarification on this as well, I’ll be using HDHR w/ Cable Card

I just tried and I can’t seem to get live tv with my hdhomerun prime. :frowning:

I really hope I am wrong but the first line says "With Plex Live TV and DVR you can watch and record high definition, over-the-air television broadcasts using a digital tuner and antenna. "

I just downloaded the latest PMS and I can’t get Live TV to work… I’ve searched but I don’t see any special instructions on how to enable Live TV. I’m using a Prime.

Has anyone used a cablecard successfully in a different location from your primary residence?

That is good to know. Which platform are you testing on?

Well… Android mobile. Which I just read ISN’T supported at this time. Only stupid Android TV and iOS!

Are you able to get ESPN and such?

The announcement video specifically says that Cable Card is supported.

Where do you see that? at about :30 in they specifically say it “works with any type of digital antenna, indoor or outdoor” does not make mention of cablecards from what I see.

Also if you look at any of the channels that they show in the video all are ota channels.

I just posted my full experience with using a CableCard on Suddenlink in another thread when I saw this. So I’ll answer the questions I saw:

  • Live works with an HD HomeRun Prime using a Cable Card.
  • DRM channels are inaccessible. For my cable company, it is only NBC Universal channels. ESPNs and subsidiaries such as the SEC network are in the clear. I watched quite a few baseball games during testing over the past few weeks. Only disappointment was that Texas Aggies didn’t do better in the tournament.
  • Watching live remotely likely will require trascodes, but some clients require transcoding anyway so remote/local should be no different except for the bandwidth of the transcode (for example, iOS cannot play my mpeg2video/AC3 content that comes over the cable, but is happy with a transcode).
  • To use live, browse to the Program Guide (on Android it may be far down in the list), and select something in the On Right Now section to play it.

Thanks gbooker. That is great. I can live without the DRM channels, but any idea if that is planned for the future?
