I’ve read a lot of the posts on this topic, but I’m really flummoxed over this. I have many albums. Using MP3Tag, I have manually edited all of the meta data, including the album art.
For the Library (Advanced) settings, I use the Plex Music Scanner and for agent, I’ve tried Plex Music and Personal Media Artists. I have checked Prefer Local Metadata and for Album Art, I have selected Local Files Only. According to MP3Tag, the cover art is listed as Front Cover.
When I refresh metadata, all but 3 show no album art, and I cannot figure out what makes those 3 so special. All of the art is embedded in each track and it doesn’t seem to matter if I have a cover.jpg file in the album folder. The 3 that work do not have that file.
Most or all of them do get their covers when I do not prefer local metadata, but mine are better.
I’d appreciate any suggestions anyone might suggest!
Have you considered placing those album covers as local files alongside the music files? Given there’s usually 1 album cover per album, there’s little value add to have them added inside each track.
This should work the same way as for movies/shows, by placing a file called e.g. cover.jpg into the album folder.
Tom, I understand your point. Even though I’ve been a Plex user for over a decade, I still sometimes play the music through other players. To be safe (cover art-wise) I just include the image with each file. I save them such that compared to the FLAC files they’re attached to, their additional storage consumption is negligible.
Also, I have tried your suggestion as a means to remedy the overall problem of the album art not displaying and it didn’t help. I’ve named the stand-alone files cover.jpg and folder.jpg. No joy.
I originally posted that I had tried setting the library to Personal Media Artists, and I had, without success. But overnight, that seems to have done the trick. All my art is displaying.
So my current settings are Plex Scanner, Personal Media Artists, and Local Files Only. I hope that helps anyone else with this problem.
